Buying a head unit for audio upgrade
Guys, my car is coming in but I am replacing the speakers putting in a sub/amp and changing the head unit. I don't have nav or anything. Is there room for a double din unit with gps? I know there's the screen on the top like in here
http://mycarpictures.org/download/62...3_Interior.jpg But if I replace the screen with a kenwood, I would lose all the information the screen has for non nav purposes? Anyone know where else the double din head unit would go? I want the DNX 6980 .. Last edited by mtlcruisin; 04-28-2011 at 09:21 PM.. |

I think you're playing with fire here. The HU needs to interact with the idrive. Have you found an adapter to interface this? Just replacing the amp and speakers is going to be quite a job and your sound return for replacing your HU is probably going to be minimal. As above I don't see where a Double Din would fit.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a double din unit like this one to fit though, this unit is my preference: http://www.crutchfield.com/s_113DNX6....html?tp=20212 |

Wow, hope you enjoy the results. Time, effort, and the end product make no sense to me. Sounds like you're doing what I did to my VW bus 30 years ago . . .

ya, the more I even look at it, a single din unit with a pop out screen won't work either because it will cover the temperature controls.
So, to all future owners, it might be easier to spend more and go with the factory nav. |

Exactly...it's quite a bargain if you a better sound system.
