coolant cap
I had to put in coolant today, which I thought odd for a less than 8 month old car. My question is about closing the coolant reservoir cap. How do you know when it is closed? The manual says there should be an audible click. When I close it, it comes to a definite stop and there is an audible plastic on plastic noise ("click"). I wanted to ask the question because there is no "feel" of a click or locking mechanism and I find that odd.

As long as you hear a "click"/feel a stop and the arrows on the cap and reservoir match up, you should be ok. I don't think you're supposed to feel a lock-click.

I got the "add coolant" warning 3 days ago. I was a bit surprised by this. My other car is a '96 w/286,000 miles on it and I never had to add any coolant to it. Actually, I've never seen a radiator on it either. Anyways, I bought a gallon of 50/50 antifreeze and added a small amount, maybe a cup or two. The cap didn't seem on all that tight and I put in on twice just to make sure. Maybe it's the extended streak of 90+ days that caused the small loss.
