Thanks for all the advice

I am in Afghanistan and will return home in 4 weeks (after a year). I was home during the holidays and test drove an X3 andd fell in love. There are no BMW dealers here to go see swatches and ask questions. After following this forum I was able to confidently put together a list of options. X3 28i ordered to be waiting for me when I get home. I was unsure about what to do on several options but after using the search feature I read many opinions on each and this enabled me to make a confident decision. I even ordered a Zaino kit due to what I read here. I appreciate the collective wisdom here.

Cheers,
Perry

you did not get it the first time, so here it goes again - you do not understand it is a silly question, but believe me it is. go to google for this king of 'research'. In some cultures/environments it is not appropriate to raise such questions.

Yes it's very much silly. This forum is to exchange info about X3 and not intended to quiry about individual's earnings or any private matter.

Enjoy your return home and the spiffy new car. Don't forget to bring a few things back with you to decorate it -- you know, a couple big, black pom-poms for the back, some brightly colored plastic bands to weave through the rims, lace and beads to hang from the roof inside, the standard stuff.

I am still in Afghanistan for another 16 days, but who is counting. According to the website tracker my X3 is built and enroute to my dealer. I will pick up a couple of days after I get back. I always try to give back so a report is forthcoming.

Thanks,
Perry

This is what I have been driving for the last year.

I have been riding around in this beast for the last year while in Afghanistan. I am looking forward to the smoother and more luxurious ride of my X3 when I get home. This is called a Raptor and gets about 2 MPG.

I suspect that the Raptor has a rather different Tech package than your X3 will have, and that's definitely not the same implementation of a panoramic roof that BMW uses. Oh, by the way, the Sport Seats in your X3 will be oh so much more comfortable than the Raptor's Baliistic seats...

LOL...I live just east of Camp Pendleton. My X3 and bike share the road with these, APCs, Humvees, and trucked M-1 Abrams. The X3 just doesn't have the badass feel when stuck in the middle of the convoy! Thanks for the service, stay safe.

Job well done to you. I also bought my X3 last summer while in Afghanistan through BMW Military Sales Program which is offered in many countries. The transaction was all done by email and it was so easy. (I did not test drive the vehicle, forum and reviews only... not easy!!)

It is a good program that is offered by BMW, and other manufacturer should do the same. It is a real rebate (20% MSRP) which allows military members with a smaller income to buy a luxury vehicle after spending 6 months to a year away from their family, in difficult and dangerous condition.

Again, have a safe return, keep your head on a swivel during these last 2 weeks.

Though 20% is insignificant compared to the hardships these people go through at war fields, thanks to car manufacturers for honoring their services.
