Question 2011 x3 stalls-hesistates at high speed around at 75-80 miles/hr

After I placed order for a new X3 and friend of mine wanted the same, but at much less money . He located a pristine x3 28i in a Honda dealership. Beautiful car at 15k miles .We went for a test drive . It cold and frigid around Boston . No wonder TPMS sensors were not happy . We jump into the highway .Great ride .. till we slowly reached around 75-80 miles per hr, for a minute or so. Weird thing happens..engine kind of self limits itself.. like automatic engine brakes ,till speed falls below 78 miles/hr.. No unusual transmission noise . No warnings on the dash, except front right wheel TPMS warning. Take an exit on to the back roads .Try out handling on the ice. Great Xdrive. Go back on the highway . Same thing ..around 80 miles/hr - automatic engine brakes. Any clues?

Has the spee limiter been set by the dealer or former owner? +1 on not driving with TPMS warning on. Nuts!

It's possible that the car is programmed to limit speed if it has a low tire warning. A TPMS warning will switch on the DSC system even if the car is in Sport or Sport+ mode. The manual doesn't state any speed limit (with a low tire warning), but it's not unreasonable to believe that the car is trying to save your ass(s) by letting you know that driving 80 mph with a low front tire might not be in your best interest. A TPMS warning means the tire is dangerously low. Being low due to low temperatures, a slow leak or a puncture makes no difference.

I wouldn't drive the car around the block at 30 mph with a low tire, but that's only me.

Why not inflate the tires to the proper pressure, reset the TPMS and try it again?
Maybe you could hit 130 on I-93 this time.
