Break squeal right before coming to a stop

I've got random brake squeal, right before the vehicle comes to a stop. There's only 150 miles on the car, so the brakes probably need some time to bed in, etc. Has anyone else had the same squeal and how long was it until it went away, if at all?

I haven't had this problem, haven't heard of this problem and wouldn't tolerate this problem. You should take it to the dealership. New brakes shouldn't squeal.

Exclamation

I think you should take it to the dealer as soon as you can, its better to report the problem and have it looked by BMW.

maybe its not really the breaks squealing. maybe its just the pure Joy you are experiencing and you just keep letting out a little squeal

having the same issue. going away now that it's at 700 miles.

and actually, brake squeal happens MORE with NEW brakes than it does with "broken-in" brakes. they need some time to make their impressions and bite patterns before they can be used to their fullest potential. just mind your braking until 1200 miles. it should go away on its own.

it happens more with people in below-freezing weather, and you're in mass, im in chicago.

Probably not this at all, but I had squeaking brakes on my 3-series soon after delivery, that reoccurred a few times, always at very low speeds.
I took it in a couple of times to be looked at, 1st time they found nothing, couldn't reproduce it, 2nd time, they said that was a normal artifact of the sensor that detects if brake discs are wet or something.

Can't remember the details now, but the E90/E91 (and I assume other BMW's) had this technology (combined with rain sensor I think) that would attempt to keep the brakes dry when it was raining.

So what the dealer explained was that it was this sensor that was causing some noise sometimes...

I'm not sure if I ever completely believed them, but they found nothing else wrong and did sound fairly clued up as to the setup of this sensor etc. (I know - clued up - dealer - surely not!)

Anyway, thought I'd share that fwiw.

During the "X3 Driving Experience" pitch yesterday, the guy mentioned that the pads aren't on the rotors at all. But, if you lift off the gas quickly, or the rotors are wet (from rain?), they'll barely touch, first case to speed up the process of applying braking, and the second to dry the rotors off. Both are instances where you're not touching the brake pedal.

I have been experiencing the brake squealing noise as well, however unlike you guys have stated I have had the X3 since April and have close to 11,000 miles on it. The brakes do not squeal everyday maybe every third day, and definitely only when coming to slow stops. Took it into the dealer, and they check out the brakes and said they were fine. The said they have had some brake noise complaints and that it is because BMW came out with "safer" brakes which are more noisy. They said to try and keep the brakes clean (I live in Buffalo, with a lot of snow and salt). Anyway it is frustrating but right now there is not too much I can do. Its embarassing coming to a stop in my 40k vehicle only to have it sound like it has brakes from a POS. Any one else experience this after having so many miles already on the vehicle? Again this sound only started occurring with the last couple thousand miles.

My brakes squeal inconsistantly when it is cold out. It usually happens when I'm coming to a slow stop. I only have 4,000 miles on mine. It happens a couple times a week for me.

Took me 28i to dealership around November and have a test drive with the tech guy about the squealing. He also said that is not normal and the dealership replaced the two front brake pads with no charge and I don't have any more squealing.

I have the same squeal when coming to a stop. I have about 20k miles. I took it to the dealer and they chamfered the fron brakes. The squeal stopped for about a week. It started a week later, usually very low in sound and then it gets very loud. After another week it went away. I had setup a appointment so I took my x3 in. To make the long story short the dealer could not reproduce the squeal and sent me packing. Another week has gone by the my X3 either has a very low squeak or no squeal at all. I am waiting for the the next cycle and will bring it in again.
