scratch on clear coat after car wash

wish I didn't go through the machine wash. Got a lot of light scratches on the clear coat which is mostly visible under direct sun. the scratches are on the side from front to rear.

I don't think repaint would be needed but can I use those "scratch X" to baffle them away?

worst case would be filling an insurance claim but not sure if they would ask to do a repaint.

any other recommendations?

Was it a auto brush wash or a touchless car wash?

I'd bet if you take it to a premium auto detail shop they'll resolve all the scratches.

In the future only use brushless car wash or wash yourself.

Car wash brushes pick up and hold grit from all the previous cars they've touched.

You know those really dirty and muddy cars you sometimes see? Yep those are the folks who use the brushes.

Good luck!

If you repaint three panels your car can no longer become certified used from BMW, reducing your sale price substantially.

It was through a auto brush wash.

I am not sure if repaint is needed. will talk to body shop. Hope they will just need to polish the clear coat.

Could that really work? Wouldn't they say most cars end up like that? Or are the scratches really bad.

You are probably best taking it to a detailer.

Noooooo!!!

A repaint is not needed.

You need these three things:

Polisher: http://www.autogeek.net/porter-cable-7424xp.html

Pads, Orange/White/Black: http://www.autogeek.net/vcpad.html

Some compounding polish: http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-polish-po203.html and maybe this: http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-nan...ng-polish.html

If you have a lot of patience and time, you can do this yourself. Otherwise, take it to a pro and expect to pay $500-$800 to get it looking better-than-showroom-new.

Going to a pro is smart, but I will be surprised if your insurance will let you file a claim for this. Let us know!
