4 year/50000 miles free maintenance
hello everyone,
I just bought a 2014 x3 28i from a private party. Now it has 14,000 miles on it. The owner told me the car still under factory warranty and 4 year/50000 miles free maintenance program. I did some research in the past few days and learned the BMW free maintenance program is not eligible to second owner on the car sold after 7/1/2014. However, the original owner brought this car on 1/2/2014. My question is, do i (as a second owner )still qualify BMW free maintenance program? Thanks in advance! |

The only thing you will have to fork over for that it may have covered was free wipers, oil changes, and brake pads. With 14,000 miles you won't need brake pads, value customer oil changes are $79, and wipers online on ECS are cheaper.
The money you saved buying private is well below what it would have cost retail and getting a "free maintenance" .

The BMW website says the program is not transferable only for model year 2015 or later sold after July 1, 2014. My interpretation is that your 2014 model should be OK. The benefit should transfer to you.
That said, I agree that the maintenance program isn't that huge a benefit. Given that the items covered aren't terribly expensive to begin with and that the allowable service intervals are ridiculously long, you really only end up with 3 or 4 oil changes and a couple of filters by the time the thing expires. |

You just paid upfront. Don't fool yourself and, by extension, others. You either have CPO or a extended warranty that cost a lot of money. Cheers! |

My 2015 was purchased by me in June of 2014, so if I wanted to sell it it would be transferrable according to the post above. I am 44% through the free mileage already, and with no plans to sell any time soon, I don't have to worry.

I did sign up and paid for the extended maintenance plan - I feel that I'm getting my pay back and I'm pleased with it.

Do you change your own oil and filters? I wouldn't pay for another 2 years of service if I was changing my own.

I'm confused why you would go ahead and pay for an additional 2 years worth of optional maintenance if you don't use it.
It isn't like an extended warranty. You can decide to buy that as an "insurance" policy, and hope that you never need it. |

The deductible for sending the car in for service is 150, so your total bill better be higher than this. I don't have 2 years, I have 5. A lot can go wrong in 5 years, and if the turbo decide to go, or water pump or anything else, 150 bucks gets me going and I get a loaner and the car is serviced at BMW, not a sketchy Indy. As I said, I still hope not to need it. I was able to plan to pay 150 tops if something ever happened in those 5 years. Cheers |

I myself haven't signed up for either the extended maintenance or extended warranty.
I didn't realize that there were third party extended maintenance packages for BMW. The BMW one only extends the service, I thought, to 6 years 100,000 miles. Which is a 2 year extension on the 4 year 50,000 maintenance. I'll probably hit 50,000 miles sometime between 3 and 4 years, so buying it would give me 2-3 years of oil changes, filter changes, and any other routine maintenance. The BMW plan hasn't required deductibles yet. And it doesn't cover things like turbos or water pumps. If I worry about things like that, I still have 2 1/2 years or 27000 miles to decide whether I want an extended warranty. |

I still wouldn't buy a maintenance plan then not use it. It would be like buying an extended warranty then deciding to just replace a broken turbo out of pocket.

This is old but to clarify on this, the 4y/50k miles free maintenance comes with the vehicle, no matter how many times it is sold or to whom it is sold. Is that correct?
Now I am confused and have no idea if you guys were talking about normal free maintenance for 4y/50k miles or an extended maintenance plan I had never heard that this normal free maintenance was not transferable |
