To Hitch or Not to hitch?http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/images/smilies/search.gif

I will be taking delivery of my new bronze 2011 X3 on Tuesday. I'm thrilled; however, I'm buying the one off the lot and it doesn't have a hitch. We like to bike ride in my family and have a four person bike hitch on my current car. Should I purchase an after market hitch or should I purchase the BMW dealer hitch? Any thoughts? Price differential? I also received a $500 accessory credit with the dealer. I know I need a cargo mat, but any other accessories you think would be fun/needed/useful?

Thanks

Not exactly the same, perhaps, but the towing package isn't supposed to be available until April. "Under design review". Accessories listed for the 2011 X3 so far is the receiver cover.
They list roof-mounted bike racks, but I've never been too keen on putting things up on the roof.

I too am waiting on info for the hitch. When did you get this $500 accessory credit with the dealer? I preordered several accessories and they asked for payment for the parts and labor in advance of which some are not even in yet and I took delivery at the Performance Center 2/7. I did not even get a free key ring and am going to be hot about this $500 credit!

The base system is actually pretty good - from my brief tests.

I really love music and ordered the upgraded stereo and in the US the extra $850 or so seems well worth it.

I was really impressed with the upgraded stereo as well.

Thanks... is there a residual on it? I'm also going back and forth if I should spring for the sport package as that seems to provide the sport seats and chrome trim... but maybe I don't need it....thoughts?

Hey guys first post on this forum. As bluemachine has said the base system is quite decent for most people. However for $850 more it seems worth it especially if you're not into aftermarket installations/upgrades.

I'm currently waiting on my x3 35i set for march production and have both the upgraded audio & sport package. In regards to needing the sport package it's defiantly not something that's needed or have to have. However if you happen to like the way it looks or want the sport seats and shift paddles then it's something to consider as the shift paddles aren't available on the 28i and manual mode uses that funky up & down shifting.

Also the X line trim in the sport package is somewhat dependent on the color of your car, in another thread Alpineweiss' black x3 looks really good with the X line delete.

Here's some photos

On another note, does anyone happen to know if the X line pro option for the UK is the same option as the X line trim included in the US sport package? All of the pictures on the US website are of the European spec models and I'm having a hard time distinguishing the difference.

Re chrome exhaust trim -- just a daft question but I'm struggling to maintain one...I've fitted one for my 325i coupe couple of years back (a double barrelled exhaust) and now it looks no different than the standard exhaust ;(

Therefore didn't bother ordering one for the X3

The problem is trying to maintain the glossy/chrome look. I've been trying various products but still not much luck.

Did you get genuine bmw parts or aftermarket?

My E60 chrome trim cleans up perfect after 4 years with a quick wash

Thanks for the info. Actually non-BMW stuff. Didn't think BMW products would have done much difference but now will definitly give it a go...

is there really a huge difference w/out the trim? would it look out of place without the trim if the xline package was selected?

I think so but each to their own

Do you have one on your E60?

Take them off the E60 and see what you think (or even better, take one off)
