"My BMW Remote" for Android

I just came across this post. I wanted to confirm for everyone that it works with the X3.

I was able to locate my vehicle (nearly useless thanks to BMW's 1km restriction) and use Google's send-to-car. I was unable to honk the horn, but I have heard you need a July 1 2014 production date or newer car for that work and my car is only June 27 2014.

Once they get the BMW Connected app working properly, it's "goodbye iPhone" for me.

I wouldn't switch phones for that -I used the app once.

So long as you have a '14 model I think you are good (earlier models maybe but since I have a '14 it is all I can verify). I have April '13 build (MY 2014) and it fully works once my BMW Assist was set up.

You are asking about two things (two separate apps though): There is "My BMW Remote" which does things like ventilation, locking, honking horn and whatnot. There is also the "connected" app which is for BMW Apps (like facebook and twitter up in the i-drive). BMW Remote requires BMW Assist and a newer headunit (NBT, not the older CIC) and works the same on android or iphone. Connected, however is iphone only unless you have a July 2013 build date or newer, OR you have a MY2014 (April-July '13) and are willing to do a software upgrade on the NBT headunit and then do some coding. (not for the faint of heart FYI)

Be warned however that BMW made a policy change around July-August last year that you cannot unlock from your phone anymore using the BMW Remote App (i-blah or Android), you are required to call the Assist Hotline so they can verify you are the owner.

Amazing what you can learn on this forum.
I recently purchased from BMW a 2013 X3 (built November 2012) with Business Professional Media and CIC satnav and downloaded the iphone BMW Remote app after talking to a BMW H.O. guy. He advised that I should be able to use all the listed apps, no mention of the above policy change!!
However looking at the above replies/comments this is just not the case.
This answers why I cannot get any of them to work - even the vehicle location bit doesn't seem to be accurate, it keeps showing where I or at least my phone is!!
When I select the app I get a Vehicle position on Google map showing my location. Select the Control tab I get a Google online search tab and tool tab. Select the search tab and I get the same Google location map !!!

"My BMW Remote" and "BMW Connected" both work fine on my MY2012 X3 on iPhone though only "My BMW Remote" works on Android (Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note3) No luck getting Android to work with USB cable.

I often use the remote location services to find my car in airport carparks - great feature, just wish the 1km limitation was scrapped! The Google Maps send to car is a very useful too.

The lock/unlock feature works fine on my iPhone, so BMW Canada hasn't changed its policy. Must be a BMW USA decision?

In other news, I updated my Note 3 to Android 4.4 (KitKat) using Bell's OTA update. My BMW Remote doesn't work anymore. The app still opens, but the only function that works is the locator.

At least KitKat makes text messages with voice dictation work. I guess I'll buy that Nuance Dragon Dictate subscription.

I can't seem to locate this app for Canada, through Play store. Did you side load this app from the U.S. Play store?

I got the apk from the thread I linked to in the OP. It's not available through the Play store in North America.
