I see you have a 2011 model -- first run. perhaps this is the issue. they might have improved the assembly by now. Our 2013 is rock solid thus far even in chicago's notoriously 3rd world like really crappy streets (Rahm Emanuel really needs to do something about this). also no wind noise whatsoever (another complaint i've seen here). I will definitely keep a close eye on it as creaks and rattels bother me a whole lot.

Generally ? Not mine, I have a 2011 xDrive28i and the finish is excellent and no rattles to date !

I have more than 15000 km (9300 miles) and no problems to date, everything is perfect and solid.

Our family has owned both the 2012 and 2013 MY X3 2.8i (don't ask why, but it basically involves the words "accident" and "totaled").

I can say that the turbo 4 is a more enjoyable engine than the i6. To say that it's more rev happy is an understatement. And once you get the start/stop function permanently disabled on start up, the turbo 4 is milky smooth and unless you are trying to look for it, you're not going to notice any turbo lag.

Also, herky-jerky sensation some were getting with the i6 when starting from a full stop is remedied and that little annoyance is gone.

Almost 3000 miles on my 28i loaded and have only the start/stop function as a complaint. Wondering if the dealer will change that for me because I don't want to mess with it myself.

Other than that no one seems to mention the MPG. I get 21plus around town and am sure to do much better on a hwy trip. Performance and handling are fantastic and no fit and finish that couldn't be resolved at the dealer with one stop.

It has so much spunk in sport mode that I have to be careful when in use. The turbo has a great sound when I put the peddle to the metal. What's not to love. Looking forward to see how the Xdrive performs on ice and snow with all weathers on.

I live in the snow-belt and hate all-seasons..They're great at nothing imo..But I'll give em a shot for a week or so after winter hits. I'm mentally prepared to have to outlay for some winter shoes..

I've driven a 2013 and I can safely say I hear the same noises.

They weren't there when I first bought the car, but give it a few more months and park outside enough and you'll hear it. Mostly from the center console and the tailgate. The console clicks, creaks, cracks, etc. The plastic panels are poorly padded and clipped on only in one or two places each rather than the more German-spec three or five.

Well, I hope I'm as happy with the X3 quality as I've been with the E92...

I will say I was pretty blown-away driving the 28i. I'll admit I had low expectations with a 4 banger vs what I remember on an IL6 (and what I am used to with the S65).

But I was very impressed with the smoothness and pep of the N20 paired with the 8 speed tranny - very impressed!
