Only with the optional, and very rare, psychic pack...

If you have comfort access you have to touch the ridged area on top of either front door handle (or use the button on the key)

If you don't have comfort access then you have to press the button on the key just like the rest of us....

No, this is for when you walk away from the car with the key. I need to have a look to see what time delay settings are available as I haven't looked in that menu for ages.

Sounds dangerous to me.... so you get your you car and can lock someone in just by walking away?

Are you sure? We don't have that option for the comfort access system on our F20 and there's nothing about that function in the BMW technology guide on the comfort access system http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t..._access_system

Also there have been no references to any comfort access enhancements on the coding forums and things normally show up in the available coding options before they appear in iDrive

As I understand it, there are two auto-lock functions

- auto lock doors when you exceed a certain speed (about 4-5mph)

- auto lock (relock) the doors if you have unlocked the vehicle but not opened a door within a certain time interval (I believe that the default is 2 mins)

If they've extended the comfort access functionality, then that's great, but I'd expect to have seen it documented somewhere

Pretty sure I didn't used those words, but what PerryGunn said is correct - the doors will lock automatically if you unlock them but don't open them. I just hadn't remembered it correctly!

My Lexus does exactly that 30 seconds after the doors are unlocked but my X3 doesn't seem to have ever learned that trick.

I never said you did use those words...

But yes it is correct that if you unlock the car and then dont open a door after 30secs it will lock itself again (as do many cars). It protects against accidentaL key operations.

My 2006 Cadillac has Auto-Lock feature when I would turn off the engine, open and close the doors walk away after 10 seconds. I never had to touch my keyfob to unlock nor to lock.
