Offset Question

Quick question guys,

If i'm getting aftermarket wheels, what offset should i get so that its flush and i don't have to get spacers for 19" wheels (non staggered setup)

I believe some people on the 20" wheel thread have posted their offsets, so you can get a better idea.

How come i see lots of guys getting spacers with aftermarket wheels, why not just get the right offset that way they don't need spacers?

Well there are a few factors that influence the stance or trackwidth. Its not alone the offset that determines how flush your wheels will be. here are some aspects:
1. Of course the offset of the given wheel
2. the width of the wheel itself e.g. 8.0 8.5, 9.5, 10.0. So for example a 30mm offset is completely different on a 8.5 than on a 10.0 wheel
3. the the thickness of the wheels outer lip will also have an impact on how flush the wheels will look

Besides all of these points, a lot of the time, people will want to finetune by adding 5-10mm spacers to perfect the appearance.

Furthermore, wheels are not available in all possible offsets and widths, and not all offsets are street legal.

Good to know thanks

What would you say width and offset wise would be as close to flush as possible with only needing to add maybe 5 - 10 mm spacer?

No not really.... As mentioned above, it depends on you wheels.

Check you the pics on this thread as a reference and take it from there:
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...ht=anus&page=2

You can see what my x3 looks like with 12mm in front and 17mm in the back. That is in combination with 369M wheels: 8,5J x 19 ET38 and 9,5J x 19 ET48. So what does that mean?

Well if you take same wide wheels:
Front 8.5" => Offset 38 minus 12mm spacers = 16mm Offset
Rear 9.5" => Offset 48mm minus 17mm spacers = 31mm Offset.

So the effective offset you see on the pics are 26mm in front and 31mm in the back. So if you want flushness like on my X3 your gonna need around 26mm offset on a 8.5 and 31mm on a 9.5mm wheel.

As an other example: http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666241

That guy has 10" rear wheels with 51mm Offset. He put 12mm spacers in the back, so he has a new offset of 51minus 23mm = 28mm. His front wheels have the same offset and width as my wheels: 38mm minus 12mm = 16mm

Hope this helps... You're gonna have to do the maths yourself based on your wheel configuration.

By the way.... in some countries an offset of less than 10mm is illegal.

Good to know, thanks! I think you meant you have 26MM offset in front not 16?

I think my wheels are 8.5 x 19 ET 38 all around right now.
Non staggered M-pkg setup?

My buddy was just saying that he undersatnds why people put spacers on standard factory wheels, but if you are going aftermarket, he says why not just get the right wheels lol

Back when the F25 X3 was new, we had an expert with detailed knowledge. He is no longer available, but some of his knowledge is. Here is what Lotus 7 had to say about offsets:

BMW Wheel Offsets

The correct offsets for the BMW factory wheels are:

307, 308 & 368 wheels 8JX18 ET43 (42 to 45 recommended range for 8.0 wheels)
309 & 369 wheels (Fronts) 8.5JX19 ET38
309 & 369 wheels (Rears) 9.5JX19 ET48
All, of course, have 72.6 borecentric mounting with a 5X120 BC.

Unlike most other BMW's the F25 chassis uses 14X1.25mm straight-tapered seat bolts instead of the more common 14X1.5mm bolts. The wheel bolt holes are the same, but the bolts obviously won't interchange.

M3 wheels vary with the year, but many have an offset between 30 and 40 mm for typical 8 or 8.5 widths. The 40's are probably OK , but 30's would be hard on the wheel bearings and might have clearance problems.

Awesome thanks..

Need an opinion, or has anyone seen these on an X3?

Bolt Pattern: 5x120
Size: 19X8.5
Offset: +35
Hub: 72.6mm

What would you guys do for tires in this case and spacers?
245/45/19? spacers?

Some examples of them on cars

Nice wheels. I'd put 12mm on all four wheels paired up with pirelli p zero non-runflats.

Thanks!
I know you did 12's on the front but this offset is 35 vs stock 38 i think, so maybe 15's on the front would be better.

And probably just do 15's in the back then too
