You should check the current and future standards for commercial diesel vehicles in the US before making comments.

Yea, I have nothing better to do than check the standards for commercial vehicles. Don't even try and tell me they are more strict.

We'll I got my curiosity up about diesel trucks so I confirmed what I thought.
6.5 million heavy trucks in the US.
one 18 wheeler polutes the equivilant amount of 150 autos.
Diesel trucks are very poluting, new standards were set in 2007 but almost all diesels were produced before then.
the 6.5 million trucks consume 50% of our imported oil used for transportation.

My point which was totally missed was the standard for diesel 18 wheelers (heavy trucks) was no where near what it is for current US diesel autos.

Not sure abt US but generally the standard for Trucks in Europe is not as strict as for private diesel cars.
In US diesel private cars are tested to the same standard as petrol engine cars.

Only change seems to be the central air vent trim which will now be gloss black.

Got the 2012 price list today, $100 price increase on the X3 28. The dealer seems to think they will introduce a diesel this year but they basically told me thatthey follow the BMW blogs because there is more information onhere than they get. I'm holding off for the N20 or diesel, whichever comes first I will buy.

No BMW diesels approved by CARB for 2012 MY yet. Filename will end in "diesel".

Note that petrol X1s are approved, though I gather they won't make it here until late next year, if ever.

So, if I were to order a new one, is it worth the wait to get a 2012 over a 2011 (just thinking having a 2012 v 2011 is better from a 'year' thing). Also thinking of doing the trip thingy to pick it up from SC - happy to wait till Sept for that. Suppose question is - when does a car change from 2011 to 2012? From when built / ordered?

does that $42,400 price include destination? If not that is a $1,350 price hike (3.2%) which seems pretty high right after a new model is introduced. Unless there are some now included features that weren't included before...

Now if destination is included in that price, then its a $475 price hike.

Even better, if that includes destination and the BMW assist with enhanced bluetooth then there is really no price increase, just a new feature built into the base price (which I think they are doing on some of the 2012s already and I think in the US they are making you add that option for 2011 orders right now).

That does not include destination so yes it is a $1,350 increase.

I show the BMW assist and bluetooth as a $650 option or comes with Navigation or the Technology Package so its not standard for 2012.

hmmm, that could change my order a lot. I was going to get the 35i because it was only like $2500 more, but now its going to be almost $4,000 more than a 28i loaded the same way. Also was going to get the M Sport because of the anthracite headliner, I know it sounds strange but my wife and I like the look a lot more than the standard gray and she has always loved it in my sports cars, now I might just go with the sport activity package, too bad I hate the wheels on all 28i variations (including M sport)

I don't like the wheels on the 2.8 either but that's what I'm going to order when the N20 is introduced. Have to have 18" wheels because the 17" just doesn't look big enough and handling should improve slightly.

The 35i base price now includes mats and the moonroof as standard. This is their justification of increasing the base price.

Also, they added the convenience pkg to the premium pkg in the 35i, so if you are planning to order the premium pkg, you will get (and pay for) the convenience pkg. Basically no option not too.

are they trying to be like Lexus and Audi? I hate this package crap, BMW used to be really good at letting you order exactly what you wanted, and they even advertised it that way "millions of combinations" well I guess not anymore. See I was going to skip that convenience package because I don't care about the power tailgate or keyless access (since it already has keyless start as standard) and it was going to save me $750 compared to just getting the couple options I wanted from that package, BUT I wanted the premium package, so now if I get the 35i I have to get it all?

I think they must be doing this because of how fast the 35i is selling, so now they will make people pay more for all the options that have a ton of profit in them.

28i with sport activity package and I could be under $50K with a pretty loaded car, I did just realize that means I have to have X-line trim, not a huge fan of that, I like the black trim a lot more.
