Rear Brake pad replacement- UK

Hi,

Just had my X3 in for the End of Warranty, MOT and Service.
They got an extra £40 off me for an aircon service.

The dealer called me to say the rear brake pads had only 2mm left on them, and wanted £250 (+Vat?) to change them.
Sounds expensive, so I said no. I presume an independent can do it for a lot less money.

Any ideas on cost?

They must only be swapping the pads and not the rotors. Most likely not even resurfacing them.

This is in the U.S. But you could convert or look online at prices there to gauge how far off it is.

I was quoted £560 by my local BMW stealer.
My indi did it for £164. Just shows you that it's best to shop around

It's just a replacement of the rear pads. They said it was slightly discounted because the car was already in for service. £296 (incl. VAT).

So if the Brake pads= ~£60, labour= ~£236???

I had started replying to this post today as my car was in for replacement front discs and pads (£550).

Unfortunately they crashed my car when delivering it!!

I just read about that! Sorry it really does suck!
Anytime you put new pads on, short distant stopping is scary until the pad material transfers to the rotor. That's why a sequence of hot cycles is needed to accomplish it , as well as a cool down period so they don't warp.
I wonder if they did that before they delivered your car to you.
