New to me 2012 X3

Hi all,

Just picked up a clean white 2012 x drive with the m appearance package. Love the look, doesn’t have xenons, but pretty much everything else I wanted! 80k miles

Nice find...looks great in white with M trim. Congrats

I was looking for a 2011-2012 28i for the simpler I6 non turbo engine. Even though many of them were nicely optioned, most didn't have Xenon lights, which for me, is a requirement for the dark country roads I drive. Since Xenon is standard on the 35i, searching for 35i made fined a Xenon equiped model easier.

Yeah I wanted to avoid the 2013+ for the turbo. Are there any decent headlight replacements? I haven’t done a deep dive yet...

The right way is a complete Xenon headlight swap, which is expensive and not exactly plug and play. People have put in LED bulbs and say they work well, though most LED bulbs in reflector Halogen housings I've seen output excessive glare to oncoming traffic
I've used the linked Halogen H7 bulbs in other BMWs with good results. They're 2100 lumens vs 1200-1500 lumens of stock bulbs. . There will not be a night and day difference, but will provide a nice boost in output and are plug and play with no errors or coding required.

AFAIK, the Halogen H7 bulbs in the link I provided are the brightest bulbs available that are drop in replacements. I don't think sylvania has anything close and those silverstar have short life.

The irony is it isn't the turbo that is the problem in those engines, but the timing chain.

I have a turbo with my diesel.

Does the diesel have timing chain issues?

Yeah I know I avoided the 2013+ for the timing chain and didn’t want to spend much more to get a 2016+ with m package.

I've not heard of anything for my engine. But sales are so much lower than the 4 cyl gas model that it could be unnoticed.

I wasn’t talking about the US specific market. In Europe you’re hard pressed to find an X3 without a diesel.
