Low oil level

My 2011 28i showed low oil level on the display. I was close to 5000 miles so I decided to just change the oil. I retrieved 5.5 quarts. I have never had an issue with oil level being low before and there are no leaks anywhere. Are these engines (N52) known for oil consumption or am I just freaking out ?

Yes it's not uncommon to burn some oil.

Yes it's not uncommon to burn some oil.

+1...my 2012 28i uses a bit of oil, maybe 1 qt per 4K or so miles. 86K on the odometer.
