tailgate to bumper spacing

Hey all, just went from 5 series to a loaded 2012 x3 35i. Wow the x3 is so much more responsive. Anyway the bottom of the lift gate is rubbing on the top of the bumper facing in the middle. Anyone know what holds the top/step part of that down? I can press it down. The sides are good its just the center.

Something like this?

Mine is also a 2012 (CPO), got it in January and it's been bothering me.
I asked my dealer to have a look, but their response is "you'll need to ask a body shop"...

This is no correct, spacing should be equal everywhere between bumper and door. Was this a new car you bought?

No, it's a CPO. I suspect it is being caused by the towbar assembly, but have tolerated it because it has just over 90,000km on the clock and it's intended as a weekend roadtrip vehicle with offroad use where perfection is not as much of an issue.

Because I'm a perfectionist however, it's still bothering me!

same here, cpo with 40K. Agreed spacing should be the same all around. No hitch on my X so the hitch probably isn't the cause for you either. I have an appointment for a passenger air bag light always on. So Thursday I'll inquire about the bumper also and post back their answer.

I had that same issue when the dealer installed my factory tow hitch.

They fixed it for no charge, as they should. That's not right.

So I had my X at the dealer and the bumper to tailgate issue is a broken Inr bumper cover support clip. there's a left and right part number. 51 12 7 239 884 for the right and 883 for the left. Dyi if you have some plastic pop rivets. U tube has a video of x3 trailer hitch install that walks thru the steps to take the bumper cover off to fix it yourself.
