depends of your usage.

In 98% of the time, extended warranties are useless.

In Canada, dealer will do anything to avoid repairing something under warranty. The Canada laws, in most case, are stronger than the warranty.

At the end, youll paid for something, youll fight with the dealer and youll probably need to bring “reasonable lifetime” law.

also, this will report the mods aka big turbo, tune, etc

Sorry, this is very wrong.

Also, let's rephrase the "warranty" term, which is incorrect, to insurance.

Cheers

I'll plan to extend mine when the time comes, but I can get a good priced version through USAA and I plan to keep the X3 for quite some time to come.

I agree that in the end odds are you'll pay more than you will get out of it, or the warranty companies wouldn't have a business. But the odds for our cars to have an issue, and it be expensive, certainly makes it worth considering. In the end it's just like any other insurance.

There's a good thread, recently, about the subject in the 1-series forums if you have time to search.

No. Any repair the car will need will be less than what you paid for the warranty.

for warranty there are many options.
60 month (1 year) with 80,000 is $2350
72 month (2 year) with 100,000 is $3125
84 month (3 year) with 120,000 is $4200

Price is CAD + tax

What does 60 month (1 year) mean and so forth?

Is that the mileage limit or on top of what you're currently sitting?

60 months means (4+1) year 4 year ending soon so additional 1 year with max of 80,000 km and so on.

hope this clarify your question.

Highway robbery then.
Run like the plague... lots of cheaper options in the market

I got mine for 5 years (from the date of contract signed, regardless of how old the car is) and 100,000 km (from when the contract is signed as well) for 3000 CAD.

unless you have multiple issues . . . . quite possible ! or any one of the below and a longer list available.

xmission $ . . . WAY above warranty cost
engine $ . . . Same or exceeds the value of the vehicle
A/C system repair or parts $ . . . ugh

Its exactly like Life insurance.
IF you die, its covered !
If you don't . . . at least it was covered and NOT a burden to others, or any concern along the way.

Unless its a negotiated CPO purchase...then I would find a good indy...and shove the dealer extended warranty.

That's serious cash that can do a lot of maint...

Never again for me....

I have a 2013 X3 35i and about 2 years ago bought an extended warrantee from Fidelity (as recommended by my Indy) and so glad I did.

Easily have had over $6K of repairs covered by Fidelity for an ac compressor replacement, AC leak repair, main engine seal, radiator, oil pan gasket replacements, software reloads, etc.

When I purchased it, the Fidelity Platinum EW was almost too good to be true...~$2800 for extending an additional 6 years/ 72K miles with $100 deductible.

Be sure to shop around. Fidelity prices can vary significantly by individual reseller (feel free to PM me if you want to contact the dealer that I found. He came highly recommended by several other members on this and other forums).

A couple years ago the local BMW dealership gave me a very high quote for the BMW warranty (to 7 year/100K miles). I decided to gamble.

I'm at almost 68K miles (4.6 years) and so far I'm winning. 32K miles remaining.

The fact is the odds are you will lose the gamble. That's why a lot of people like me bank the money and take their chances. But I look at it even differently than that. People tend to look at it in isolation - a decision to be made about this one purchase. I don't. If something happens to my car, what I have in the bank is the money I saved on not buying extended warranties on this car, my wife's car, my last several cars, every TV and dishwasher I ever bought, every tire I have ever bought, etc. No car repair will ever put me behind financially on my "no warranties ever" policy.

To date as i can remember . . . i've purchased 7 extended warranties
on various cars. Of the 7 . . . . 5 of them payed out 2 to 6 times the price
of the warranty. The TWO that went without issues past factory coverage.
Both Honda CRV ! ! (she is driving #3 now, no didn't bother this time)

The 2017 X3 is still covered but i'm talking to places now to extend.
(fac warr has already replaced circuit boards, infotainment display head,
and suspension parts) And it only has 18K on it. I won't go past factory
warranty without an extended on this one)

How many years / miles are you going to keep it if covered ?
its not that much. at least cover the major items !
