Generally speaking, off-roading tricks boil down to tires and techniques more than the vehicle. (assuming you have 4WD of some kind).

Sometimes I don't know what those test represent in real life.

LOL.....this is uber silly. C'mon lets leave the "off road" for vehicles like Land Rovers and Jeeps. For people who have gone off road know what it takes.
Front and rear LSD's, low transfer case, suspension articulation....etc. When it comes to off roading i miss my 2004 WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee.
These Suv's are good for Mall Crawling!

I posted this for generally the perception is the Bimmer SAV's CAN'T do any of these things, so incase u ever encounter those obstacles you are confident it could cope in some soft roading conditions. However as we all know it ain't no Landrover or Landcruiser for the real heavy stuff, which most of us will not venture into in our mall crawlers:-)

Is there even a winch option on a BMW?

No winch option because presumably with XDrive you'll never need one. :-)

However, some people believe "BMW" stands for "Babbling Mechanical Wench".

It's good to know that the X3 can be driven through an extended length puddle though.

Lol. These videos are a joke. Just the thought that some people think this vehicle is capable because of this makes me laugh. I'm sure the x3 excels in highway/city settings though.

No X drive would compete with a true 4wd (Land Rover etc) but it clearly has some off road capabilities (call it a soft roader or whatever) - let us have our fun!!!

In first movie russian comment that off roading is not the strongest side of X3, and the test conditions of BMW Xperience test-drive are too marketing, the real thing starts in deep snow or wet sand

C'mon guys!! I love these videos!!! Tell me you didn't laugh out loud at least once. BMW doesn't intend for buyers to drive the X3 up rock walls at Moab, nor does it target sales of the venerable Jeep... Sure I can think of better vehicles for big game hunting on the Serengetti or exploring Andean jungles in search of undiscovered ancient ruins or long lost Incan chilli recipes...

Of course, this car is FASTER than my 330Ci in a straight line, and has soft road capability, for those tricky holiday parking maneuvers at the mall....

Soccer Mom's husbands haven't had it this good since Sex and the City went off the air in Feb 2004.

the reason the X3 keeps winning 4x4 vehicle of the year(not offroader) for the new Xdrive 4x4 system is pretty superior.

And, unlike the Jeep and Range Rover, it won't spend half it's time in the company of your local mechanic.

I actually got to take mine off road last weekend. It was honestly good. I was surprised.

As a former Jeep ('84 CJ7) and Land Rover ('95 D90) owner, I can say for certain that you shouldn't treat your F25 like one those. That being said, remember that BMW owned Land Rover for a few years. They didn't waste that time. For what the X3 is...the "off-road" capabilities are pretty impressive. Then again, there will always be those idiots that that try and do 0-60 rock-crawling.

I don't do offroading. But I can say this. Today here is very, very icy. The sun though is warm enough to melt a tiny layer of ice on top of the road. As a result, I cannot walk on it without skidding. I am wearing sneakers - not the best shoe for this kind of condition but still.

My X3 has standard all-season tires, and when I went through the exact same road with it, it never skidded. I could start and stop just like if the road were devoid of ice. I am sure that if I tried to push it, I'd be able to skid, but the point is that my X3 grips better than going on foot. And that, to me, means a lot.

Bad roads is what BMW's with xDrive were designed for and where they shine.

The early X3's did well in racing too:
