How much off MSRP?

Just wondering how much 'negotiation' there will be with a custom order. I have never bought a BMW, never bought a car in its first year with an overhaul, and never custom ordered so I feel a bit uncertain about how much I can expect them to come down. Are there any tips? I do feel like there should be some sort of negotiation based on the mandatory NAV at least, but am I dreaming?

It really depends on the area you are in, number of dealers, dealer allocations and how eager individual dealers are to close a deal. How equipped with higher margin options is your car will also play a part. Finally if you know the dealer and have been a loyal customer may help. I would definitely check out a few places.

Just don't believe that there are no deals to be had, because the car is a hot seller, because there always are. Also, perhaps a better way to look at this is negotiating upwards from Dealer Invoice Pricing rather than down from MSRP.

However, to answer your specific question, my estimate for a very good deal right now on a loaded X3 is 6-8 % off MSRP, but pls keep in mind that it is all specific to your own situation.

It has more to do with dealership relationship right now, I'm afraid. But that does not mean you shouldn't expect a break and receive one (after all, a prospecive new customer is attractive too).

Most dealers are making between 7 and 8 percent on MSRP, so use that as a baseline and decide what you are willing to pay. The best advice is to set you "low" number (i.e. $x over invoice or x% off sticker) and negotiate UP from there - not DOWN from MSRP. Know how high you're willing to go, and be prepared to walk away if you feel a fair deal can't be reached.

The X3 is smoking hot right now, and there are no BMW incentives to the dealers, so anything you get off sticker is out of their pockets. Set your expectations accordingly so you don't feel "insulted" if they offer you a smaller discount that you feel worthy of.

On my first BMW (E90 launch car in 2005) I got $500 off - at a time when no discounts or incentives were being offered - again hot new model with order pouring in. Each deal has gotten progressively better since, as I become a more valued return customer. The X3 I just ordered is my fifth with the dealership in less than six years.

I don't subscribe to the "screw them and get invoice price or below" mentality because I value the relationship, and if they don't make a penny off me I'm not a good customer. But I also expect a good deal....

Ask around for advice from folks you know, etc. Then go with a strategy with which you are comfortable. Don't be afraid to just ask them "what is the best you can do for me?".

Best of luck and happy negotiating!

I negotiated $750 over invoice even though I tried for $500. I also got them to throw in a loaner for a couple of weeks while I wait for the x3 to come in since I sold my current vehicle outright.

Decide too, how much a production slot date is worth to you. I lucked out. I paid about $50 more to one dealer vs. another dealer, but they were able to slot my car within three days for production. I order last Saturday and the car started production on Tuesday.

Looks like more production delays are popping up.

Place an Order for BMW X3 xDrive28i
Here are the specs for what I ordered

Color: Black Sapphire Metallic
Uphostery: Sand Beige Nevada Leather
Options: Cold Weather Package (ZCW)
Premium Package (ZPP)
Technology package (ZTP)
Roof Rails in Aluminium Satin (3AT)
Satellite Radio with 1 year subscription(655)

And below is the price I Paid.
MSRP = $46,575 ($45,700 + Dest Charges: $875)
Invoice = $43,230 ($41,955 + Dest Charges: $875 + MACO: $200 + Training: $200)
And I placed the order for $44,500(Sale Price:$42,960.68 + Processing fee: $100 + 3% VA Sales Tax: 1,291.82 + Title & Tags: $147)

As per my calculations I am paying $270 below invoice($43,230 - $42,960)

I have got an order number which is slated for production in Week 18(I am not sure if it is the 1st week of may or the 2nd week)

What do you guys think. Is this a good deal?

Is there a reason you keep posting your deal all over multiple boards and in multiple threads? Pat yourself on the back and move on...

Simply put, 1000 over invoice in Chicago on a new custom order is what I worked out.

We shopped all around Ohio and found a dealer in Dayton to sell for $2000 off MSRP + we included another $500 in free accessories. So in the end it was about $1200 over invoice I think.

Probably not the best deal but we wanted one sooner rather than later and it wasn't too far off.

Via truecar.com there was a dealer near Cleveland that was advertising $500 above invoice. When I contacted them via truecar they wouldn't agree to sell for that price. Kinda shady so we went else where.

Go to Michigan, I am sure you could get the best deal there, probably the only place cars are sitting on the lots. I think someone from MI posted they paid $750 over invoice!

I have bought a couple cars from Wisconsin before (live in northern Chicago suburbs) because they were willing to go $1000 below what Chicago dealers would, you pay taxes based on where you live so it doesn't matter where you buy it.

I'm near Dayton! Was it Voss or BMW of Dayton on Poe rd?

Voss. We are also near Dayton.

In the end I talked myself into the slightly higher price compared to what I THOUHGT I could find somewhere else by convincing myself that it was better to buy local and support the local economy. Plus since this is the wife's car I felt better knowing she will never have to hastle with loaners.

PM me and I can give you the contact information for the guy we worked with. He isgood and easy going.

We never got to talking dollars with the Poe dealership becasue atthe time their allotment was used up and it would have been a much longer wait. Obviously that may have changed by now.

My girlfriend got about 6% off MSRP considering the extra they gave her over book value of her trade in.

MSRP for a 28i with metallic paint, premium package, heated front seats and heated steering wheel came to $42,315. They gave her $1000 off MSRP and an extra $1500 for her trade in over book(which for her beat up old car was about an extra 40%). There was also a $500 dollar accessories credit but that was a BMW corporate promotion for people who went to one of the 'experience the difference' events hosted at the dealerships.

We bought from IG Burton in Milford, Delaware. We had a hard time getting them to go much under MSRP so we got a quick quote from a dealer in northern DE which we then got IG Burton to top. I bought my 1 Series from there and they took very good care of me so I wanted to give them the business if possible.

Speaking of if anyone on the DelMarVa peninsula/southern PA/southern NJ area is looking for a friendly dealer with people that don't try to scam you and willing to work out a deal see Jay Fausnaught at IG Burton. Tell him Mike Rowlinson sent you.

I am getting $1200 over invoice, which is also $1735 under MSRP. It is okay, but others obviously did better. Good luck.

Our local dealer matched the Costco price back in February..about 4000 off msrp. He said now they are not discounting at all when we took delivery this week.

I was fortunate enough to have Chuck Norris with me when I went in to negotiate my deal. I got 5,000% off. Upon delivery, they have to give me the car plus tens of thousands in cash. I also am now the sole owner of the dealership and will receive a check every month for all the profits.

it depends on your area and how well each dealership is going. that said there's a few threads here on invoice + prices that are available
Also truecar.com has pre-negotiated pricing that's relatively competitive if you want a hassle free experience
