Gas mileage check in...

OK you lucky owners who already have taken delivery, what sort of mileage are you getting? Please state if you have the 35i or the 28i and what type of driving the mileage is associated with (highway, city, aggressive etc..) thanks in advance.

No one knows their gas mileage? How do the owner's experiences compare to the listed mpgs? Someone? Anyone?

20.4 mpg

35i. Over two hours of heavy commute including about a third stop and go, waits for school buses, some freeway time between 45 and 70 with heavy traffic, and surface streets at 40 with stoplights.

I hope we get more responses….curious to see the difference between the 28 and 35. If the 35 matches the sticker, it will an even more amazing engine considering the performance available with a push of the accelerator.

I took delivery of my X3 35i on Jan 5 and have about 1200 miles on it so far. On highway trips at 70-75mph I've gotten between 25 and 28mpg. On a tank that included about 50% heavy stop and go traffic on snow-clogged city streets (and playing in some snow drifts...) it's was still about 18 mpg overall! The trip computer appears to be pretty accurate (within 1-2%). This car replaced a 08 X3 3.0si, and it appears i'm getting about 10-15% better milage than with the 08. So far, I'm very impressed that something this powerful and fun can be this efficient. Can't wait to see what it's like when broken-in, in better weather, and with summer gas.

Over 8000km with a 2.0d I have 7.4L (32 MPG US), which includes all cold starts, mountain access through snow for skiing, school run etc). On a highway run nearer 6.5L is possible.

I have a feeling this will improve 10% once the winter tyres are swapped for summer tyres in May.

38.4 in UK mpg. Not great normally but considering the cold temperature and hills, it's probably pretty good

ehh

I've had the car for only a week, and when I received it (with 3 miles) it displayed 6.3. Now it displays 10.6, and I'm worried a tad. I can't imagine that's real. I think it's averaging the old with the new. I do live in a city with lots of stop and go, but I imagine I'll get somewhere around 16mpg (I will be driving it hard once the low rev grace period ends at around 500 miles), rather than the suggested 18 or 21.

How long have you been driving at a stretch? 10.6 is the mpg reading? Does seem awfully low unless you're only driving a few miles at a time and the engine never warms up. Have you considered resetting it seeing what it does next? It does continue to average the mpg since the last reset.

Juddholland, you need to reset it, mine did the same thing when I first got it, around 10 mpg.

Mine is at 20.4 now. 70% HW 30% City.

Yeah I was thinking I should reset it. Red and green are instinctual colors to me as I've only ever lived in a city, so if I reset it I assume I'll get something like 16 or 17.

There is a boulevard-like eight lane highway that travels all along the lake from the north to the south side of Chicago, but I enjoy local driving more.

Sincerely,
The man who enables gas stations to rip us off.

So BMW saying 19/26 was pretty accurate. Sounds like my wife should be able to get about 21 mpg out of it, currently getting almost 19 mpg in our LR2, but the 0-60 on it is around 9 seconds (underpowered, overweight beast). If we can improve gas mileage, trim 2.5 seconds off the 0-60 time and have similar interior space that would be great, can't wait for the M Sport version to come out.

You guys have no clue how frustrating it is going from a car that is 0-60 in 4 seconds to a car that takes 9 seconds, and my wife hates doing the reverse because she isn't used to the power, hopefully an X3 35i will make it less painful.

In the UK petrol costs about £1.29 per litre which is just short of $8 per US gallon if I've got my maths right.

It's going to be interesting when Barack brings Airforce 1 over here in May and finds out he's not got the reddies to fill her up again at Heathrow.
I realize how lucky I am to not have to pay as much for gas. $8/gal is absolutely absurd, and the people who complain about gas prices here in America ($3.30 to $3.90) are the ill-acknowledging perpetrators to the image of obesity, laziness, idiocy, and whininess that "great-great-grandpapi's beloved country" projects.

I wish this country hadn't been plagued by the debts of all the wars we shouldn't have started under the Bush Administration so we could have the money to facilitate the imbalances of the global consumerist market. When I make 14 trillion dollars, I will be writing you a very big check for gas money.

A friendly plea that we keep this forum about cars and not politics. We can go other places to espouse and debate our political views. Would be nice, to me, just to talk cars here. Call it a middle ground of BMW lovers of all political persuasions . . .
