I'm hoping that my X3 should arrive sometime in the next month and am looking into the Service Inclusive and Service Inclusive Plus and wonder if any owners can shed any light on this options for me?

As I understand it from my dealer, the Service Inclusive costs £350 for 60,000 miles or 5 years and covers:


CBS vehicles, the package covers and is limited to:

1. Engine oil change
2. Engine oil top-ups required between services
3. Service/replacement of air filter, micro filter, spark plugs, brake fluid
4. Vehicle check
5. Standard scope


SII vehicles, the package covers and is limited to:

1. BMW Engine Oil Service
2. Engine oil top-ups required between services
3. BMW Inspection I
4. BMW Inspection II (For diesel models, see Technical Bulletin UK-00-002-05 Dated 13/06/05)
5. Brake fluid change


(I don't know if the X3 is a CBS or a SII vehicle, anyone know?)

and the Service Inclusive plus is £1380 and covers

1. Engine oil change
2. Engine oil top-ups required between services
3. Service/replacement of air filter, micro filter, fuel filter (Diesel Models only), spark plugs, brake fluid
4. Brake pads front and rear (if worn)
5. Brake discs front and rear (if worn)
6. Clutch (if worn)
7. Windscreen wiper blade set/rubbers if available* (maximum of three sets per contract)
8. Vehicle check
9. Standard scope
*If wiper blade rubbers are available, they must be used as opposed to complete wiper blades. Please
refer to your parts department for confirmation/usage.


SII vehicles, the package covers and is limited to:

1. BMW Engine Oil Service
2. Engine oil top-ups required between services
3. BMW Inspection I

So, as far as I can see, for an extra £1000, I am getting cover for brake pads, brake discs, clutch and a maximum of three sets of wiper blades. Now, that strikes me as expensive, my previous two cars (not BMW) have both only needed front discs at 90,000 miles and have gone to 120,000 miles without needing a clutch (I have an auto X3 ordered), so in reality my extra £1000 is giving me brake pads (two sets at most?) and three sets of wiper blades???

This is where I got to in my thinking and have therefore gone for the service inclusive.

I see the benefit of not having an unexpected cost but based on my mileage £1000 is an expensive premium for what is in effect for me an insurance policy.

I bought SI but felt SIP was not good value with my low mileage. The £350 for 5 years strikes me as good value when you look at labour and oil prices. It is also transferable on sale before 5 years. I felt it was a no brainer - BMW are rumoured to subsidise it to keep their service centres busy, not least as so many good non-franchised BMW service centres are about.

Agree and two dealers advised me you get your money back on the first visit

All current models are equipped with the CBS system except for X3 and Z4

So I have to assume the X3 is IIS

Like fellow posters, I have added SI to my order but felt that SIP didn't represent good value.

On the subject of oil changes, has anyone enquired on discounts for ad hoc changes if you already have the inclusive services? I'm not sure I want to wait until until the computer's estimate of Jan 2013 for my first inclusive oil change (the car will be 2 years old in Jan 2013). I also don't like the way the dipstick has been replaced by a computer reading. I used to like having a look at the state of the oil using the dipstick.

I have specced the std service inclusion for all the reasons above. I asked the dealer why it did not show on my order form - was told it is added just prior to delivery as its a dealer option.

I have added Service Inclusive to my order, but my average mileage is 25,000 a year.

With such high mileage, can anyone confirm Service Inclusive Plus is the way to go?

On the basis that I have gone through 2 sets of discs and pads in 3 years on my wife's 135i, I decided SIP was for me!
