I can't find any rfts that would fit in the 17" size. There is the blizzak lm-50 in 225/60-17, but they're listed as a 2006 production. I'm a bit worried about getting 5 year old tires.

Im trying to avoid getting 18"s since tires are pretty expensive compared to 17"

Lightbulb 17" RFT's

I have a set of PZero Nero M+S RFT's in 17" diameter from Tire Rack. They are 225/45/17 for my 335IX, They are fine and not terribly expensive way less than 18's. Might be worth while checking them out.

they're way off circumference wise though at that size...dont have the calculator in front of me but i'm guessing way more than is within tolerance.

Don't think vrrooom is suggesting using 225/45 size, only the PZero Neros, at least I hope he's not talking about the size.
Tires in size 225/45R17 are dangerously too small for a X3.

Tires of the stock (17 inch) size (225/60R17) have typical specifications of:
27.7 inch diameter
755 revs/mile
99V load rating (775 kg)

Tires in size 225/45R17 have specifications of:
25.0 inch diameter
883 revs/mile
90W load rating (600 kg)

Fitting 225/45R17 tires will result in a speedometer and odometer error of 16.9% (reads high). Additionally, with a load rating of 90, the 225/45 tires are way under the X3's minimum tire load spec of 98. They theoretically could support the X3, but would have to be run at a pressure of 3.5 bar (50psi) or so, and would certainly compromise ride and handling.

The smaller diameter tires would also lower the X3's ground clearance by 34 mm - not something you want to do in the winter.

Would love to the PZero Neros. Can't find them anywhere.

Nahoa,

Tire Rack has a limited selection of only the "All Seasons" and the "M & S" versions currently listed as "in-stock". No "Summers" yet.

Here's a list of Pirelli part numbers for the full range as listed as "available" as of July 2011. Tire Rack should be able to order any of these sizes if they are actually in production.

Red face Neros

Zero Neros RFT's are on my 335IX and non RFT on 06 X3 both had OE 17" wheels and tires are in the OE sizes. I paid $106 for the non RFT and $160 for the RFT's at the rack great deal when compared with the other brands.
