Exclamation Converting 6NL to 6NF

I did extensive serach to understand the 6NL and 6NF options. What I understand is that 6NF is just an addition of base plate to 6NL option. At the same time 6NF supports video and 6NL doesn't.

If it is just base plate, can the USB port in 6NL be rewired similar to that of 6NF option in order to support video playback? or will that require additional wiring. I am ready to take the risk in my car.

Anyone who have knowledge and or experience with this please advice. I do have access to order any specific parts if required.

You'll need a 6NR retrofit for video. 6NF will give you a media connection in the cradle (which incidentally won't work with the new iPhone until BMW release an iPhone 5 media adaptor). You can get a 6NR retrofit without 6NF and use a USB/AV cable and no cradle and get full functionality: video, iPod plug-in, apps etc. To retrofit 6NR you'll need to do some wiring. If it is the cradle enabling the media connection, why not the USB port can rewired to provide same results? By the way I am not interested in 6NR. I am aware of the 6NR retrofit kit/wire and the woring information. will 6NR retrofit enable the video playback from USB device?

What you are missing and what you need is:

1. Coding changes to enable video
2. Wiring from the armrest to the CIC to support a video signal
3. Combox change to enable video

This all forms part of the 6NR retrofit which is why I suggested it.

"Wiring the USB port to provide the same results" is what you have to do if you, like me, have no 6NF (media connection in your cradle) or no cradle at all. But you cannot use only the USB port, it will be a USB and AV cable (a Y cable) and this is because the video out on the iPhone needs a different connection to carry the video signal. The only solutions (to my knowledge) are 6NF + 6NR with a cradle direct pin connection, or if no 6NF, a 6NR retrofit and a Y cable.

Thats pretty good explanation to my question. Thanks to Shawn as well. Got the details I need.
