Your opinion may vary. I've been on auto forums (not just BMW) long enough to assess other people's information, especially regarding MPG info, and then form an opinion on my own. Plus, I've been around long enough to take the EPA data with a grain of salt. But thanks for pointing me to the EPA's website.

I don't mind talking facts, figures, and experience, but telling somebody how they should feel "you shouldn't be surprised" comes across as a little condescending, especially when it's said twice. Just saying.
I didn't mean to condescend. If you're an engineer with a masters, then you'll know as well as I that fuel economy isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of vehicle weight, engine efficiency, and driving conditions. With electronic ignition and fuel control systems, variability between production examples should be very low, so the value of "real world" examples isn't very useful for making objective evaluations.

People often ask this type of question without understanding that the responses are subject to bias and flat out lying. I once knew a guy who claimed to get 35 MPG in his 2000-ish Ford F-150. What good is that if you're trying to assess whether you should get an F-150 for your daily commute?

You know all this stuff, but a lot of other people don't, so when I see this type of question come up on the forum, I think it's worth pointing out. Again, I didn't mean to condescend. Sorry about that

'13 28i with 10k miles gets 22.9 mpg with mixed driving. On a recent trip we got 25.9 driving between 78-83 mph for most of the trip. 75 mph speed limits are addictive

Ottawa, Canada: Over my first week of ownership, getting 14 L/100Km in city driving, always in Eco Pro mode. (That's 16.8 mpg for Americans)

Can anyone comment on whether a "break-in" period will affect mileage? My new 2014 X3 28i has less than 1000 km on it, and I'm only getting 12~14 mpg (>20 L/100 km). This is relaxed city driving in "Comfort" mode.

City driving gives me crappy mileage around 14mpg but I love the 30 + mpg I get on the highway but then I have a heavy foot lol
