I've had a few electrical gremlins that go away after restarting the car... Is the fault persisting?

I had that message appear a few hundred miles after my recent oil change. What I did was to reboot the computer. I pressed down on the radio power switch for about 30 seconds until the screen went blank, and the computer reinitialized. (You can do this with the X3 running.) The message was gone after the reboot. If it returns I'll be making a service appointment. For now, the oil level appears to be at the top of the recommended range.

NB, eh? That was part of my 2500 mile maritime road trip this summer. The fact that there is one BMW dealer each in NB, NS, and NL did make me wonder how things would work out if I had a problem.

Thanks! I'll actually try the reboot. I didn't know about that.

The funny thing is, I actually bought the car at Peabody as CPO.

That's where I ordered mine.

You must have really wanted it to go through the paperwork of importing it. Does it have to go back to Peabody for warranty service, or can you take it to Moncon?

Well I went out, drove the car hard for 30 minutes to ensure oil is warm (and burn off any condensation) and pulled over. I rebooted I-drive per above (neat trick BTW) and same error. I drover for 20 more minutes and no change.

Any other ideas?

I had the sensor replaced 3 times in my E90. I thought they had this fixed. Why not just put in a dipstick? other ideas?

We still get a dipstick as well. No idea why you don't have one in the US as it's a useful backup when the electronic sensor fails and an easy way to see the state of the oil too. Why remove it? Dipsticks.
