Is buying a 2011 BMW X3 28i a good idea with high mileage?
I'm looking at a well maintained X3 28i with 169,000 miles on it. One prev owner kept all the records showing oil changes like clockwork. Had a lot of other things changed too though like water reservoir, brakes, gaskets, VANOS. Plus new tires. Dealership is selling it for $7,500. I know nothing about BMW's except I this car is beautiful. But I don't want a nightmare. Any advice https://xender.vip/?

I drive same model car, a year newer- 2012. At this mileage if the car has not had suspension work done- shocks, control and thrust arms and motor mounts it's definitely nearing time. The engines and transmissions are pretty rock solid; good idea to find out of if fluids have been changed in transmission, transfer case and differentials. Get the complete history of service and repair work, if you get serious about buying highly recommend you get car inspected, preferably by an Idependant Euro/German car shop-assuming that is commonly done in Austria (?)....that is money very well spent on one of these cars, they can be pricey to have repaired. Good luck!

My wife has the same vehicle (2011 X3 28i) with 177k miles and still drives really good. We bought it in 2016 with 64k miles.
I agree with the above post about a pre-purchase inspection. GL on your decision. |

I called BMW and my local dealer. Both said if damage occurs before the bolts are ready they will replace the engine. Now, what they say and what they do are two different things…

The VANOS bolts on my X3 broke at 86k miles. That was June-2018. The dealer replaced per SI B11 07 14.
I paid for the valve cover (P/N 11-12-7-552-281) so they installed it at the same time, no charge on labor. |
