backup camera?

We ordered a 2013 X3 back in april of this year but did not option in parking sensors or backup camera. I would like to add them now but am unsure if this is possible. I would only be interested if the backup camera and parking sensors would be compatible with the I-drive system[/B]. My wife drives this vehicle and she bumped a concrete parking pillar. $750 later (500 deductible) I might as well have just bought the parking sensors and backup camera!

Adding OEM will be very expensive especially the labor because it needs to add some wiring harness & coding as well. But if money is not an issue, then go for it because you don't want to void the warranty by installing aftermarket.

Thanks for the info. I too would only go through the dealer for installing electronics d/t warranty issues. Has anyone ever added these options after the fact from the dealer?

My car has the park distance control and I wish it had the rear camera. Top down seemed to me to be a gimmick.

Hyundai's have free cameras on the new cars and bmw wanted an additional $700.. What a rip off. Anyway, I got a quote to install (third party) the bmw rear only camera. I'll post the quote when I find the email. EDIT: $1250 from http://www.bimmer-tech.net/

That was price including shipping but bimmer-tech did not respond to my enquiry about installation instructions and coding. I wasn't about to drop a grand on the parts only to find out I had to spend another grand on installation and coding.

Here is a kit for the 2.0L diesel

http://dev.store.bmw-mini-mania.com/...ersing-camera/

It's about $1750can. ... only $1000 more than the OEM top down option.
