Anti Dazzle Wing Mirror Glass

Had a weird thing happen a couple of months ago, when I got to work before I switched off the ignition I noticed that the drivers side wing mirror glass was green with a half inch gap of 'clear' mirror around the edge, when I switched off the ignition the green tint disappeared and the glass appeared fine - I assumed it was the anti-dazzle element of the glass but thought it odd that it happened in broad daylight and never happened on my last X3.

This evening, whilst it was going dark and other motorists had headlights on the mirror was again doing its green tint thing, in line with the rear view mirror, but the green tint made it increasingly difficult to see the reflection in the mirror (nb - only the drivers side tinted green not the passenger side)

When I got home I tried shining a light into the sensor in the rear view mirror and the green tint appeared - should it be as noticable as it is as it was never this pronounced on my last X3

it means it is time to replace the mirror...something failed in the anti-dazzle/ auto-dimming feature. Similar thing happened to my wife's e46 rearview mirror

Sounds like perfectly normal behavior to me.

if your X3 is only 5 months old, then you should take it back to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty. It should not be so noticeable that it impedes vision.
