[QUOTE=PKL;8389407]all the wheels look really bad IMHO.
Agreed, the Q5 and GLK have normal sized wheels why does BMW insist on these tiny little wheel tire combos. |

Thanks for the comparison shot. I was planning on buying a Q5 for my wife but was waiting for the X3 to compare. Too bad I like the front of the Q5, but the rear of X3.

just from looks alone, the x3 is... mehh... the Q5 gets my vote... like the merc and lexus are just fugly, but they are 3's and 4's the x3 is only above them at a 6 and the audi takes it at a 8... if it were a S-line I'd give it a 9... simple styling and great wheels! (not a huge fan of the Christmas light leds up front though)

On color, I think the Mineral Silver shows the X3's lines the best. Could also be the subtle enhancements of the X-Line trim. I think it looks awful in the Deep Sea Blue and those 35i wheels are fugly IMO.

[QUOTE=e92miami;8389633]With the wheel combo BMW have to go smaller with the run flats tires , it will have to hard of a ride , like in my 328 coupe with the BBS 18 in , had to change two tires and a wheel , as long as BMW use the run flats the size cant get up there , but they can work on how the wheels look , thank God the wheels I am getting are the 28i wheels , they are not that bad , on the X5 and X6 the wheels are nice , I would liked 5 spoke 19 in with 255/50/19 tire , between all the trucks I like the BMW , I also believe in person its nicer then in Pictures , many people like the Audi Q5 I test two of them and the brakes did not feel right , also I did not like the engine 3.2 was not BMW in line 6 , my dad has the MB and for him its nice , and that other truck , it does not drive like a German car , not that I dont like it ,my cousin owes one and loves it , it does not have that German feel to it , that I like .

The X3, and it's wheels, look more rugged than the others.
I'm considering this car and the Q5 because I plan on taking it off pavement. I wouldn't consider losing the handling and performance of my 535i otherwise. The Q5 and it's wheels look a little fragile to me. Plus, nothing is more painful than 19" RunFlats off-road, I assure you.

Thanks for the pix. Looking at some of those, the new X3 looks kinda... "bland" or "generic", especially at certain angles and in certain colors (especially teh blue color) . Don't really like new headlights or the "heavy" rear end. It does look better than RX350, but it's not saying much, as just about ANYTHING looks better than RX350

From my experience after driving all three vs the X3 35i.
Engine is no contest, the X3 blows them all away, actually liked the Q5 2.0T better than 3.2, GLK similar to 2.0T, Lexus had power, just don't turn. Transmission, the X3 is quicker and smoother to react, GLK next best, Q5 was slow to react and who knows what the Lexus was doing. Suspension, I actually thought the GLK was the tightest, X3 next, followed by the Q5, the RX is just outclassed. Don't know about regular road driving, just track situation. Brakes, the X3 had great brakes and the pedal feel was great even under emergency braking. I thought the GLK was good as well. The Q5 was disturbing. It felt and sounded like someone was banging on the brake pedal when the ABS activated. Reminded me of old systems I used 15-20 years ago. The system worked and stops were good but it just felt all wrong. Again the RX just had no communication, totally numb. Stability control was extremely intrusive in the RX to the point of coming to a stop sometimes. The Audi is very safety oriented as well, a little to early to react imo. X3 was very good, not too much but is also quick enough to catch a big mistake. The GLK seemed to be too slow to react, allowing big oversteer, letting the car get totally sideways sometimes before it would shut everything down. Interior goes to the Audi in quality of materials still but much closer than before, too small though. I like the X3 next, considering it would have been last before, this is a huge improvement. Very comfortable back seat. I hate the feel of the GLK and the look, neither good looking nor comfortable. The RX feels like a Lazyboy on wheels. Very comfortable seats but the layout is bizarre. The joystick/mouse thing that controls the center screen is very strange. As a bonus, I was amazed at the ability of the X3 to tackle the off-road course as well. Very well controlled suspension and the awd system worked great. I may be biased, but I think the X3 has leaped past the rest. Definitely the class of the class. |

Wow- it never even occurred to me that the Lexus RX could possibly be considered a competitor to the X3! I didn't even realize that it was there in the photos for comparison. I thought it was just someone else's car in the parking lot. I forget that some people buy these cars just for the luxury.

GLK has awful brakes compared to anything BMW We have one and when my 328xi was in body shop for a couple of weeks I had to drive GLK instead of it. I constantly had to keep a much longer distance because I couldn't adjust to its very long brake pedal travel (typical Mercedes brakes). Steering on GLK is also pretty numb but it was faster for me to adjust to it (and I actually liked it's "numbness" when driving on highway).

Its not the size of the wheel its the size of the sidewalls that will give you the harsh ride. Unfortunately the X3 has tiny wheels with low profile sidewalls they should make them both bigger. The X3 looks like those 1960's Impala low riders with 14" wheels and low profile tires compared to the GLK and Q5.
