Jacking Car?

I have a 2 ton hydrolic jack that I just bought. Wanted to make sure if its ok to lift one wheel of the 2013 f25 28i which is 4100 something pounds.

I'm waiting on the adapter to come in.

Thankies!

Well do the maths - 2 ton = 4,480 lb.

And when you jack up a car you also have weight on the three other tyres. So 2 ton should be OK. I've only got a 2 ton jack (well 2 tonne to be exact) and have had no issues in my practice runs.

One of the important things to check is the minimum height of the jack. Using a Reverse Logic adaptor, I only have around 200mm (8") clearance under the jacking point. And if your jacking up to replace a flat tyre, it will be even less than this - probably around 180mm (7").

Also make sure you get some wheel hangers - it makes the removal/replacment of wheels much easier.

2 ton jack is more than enough. Just don't forget the most important rule JACK STANDS!

Where did you pick up your wheel hangers?

I got mine from Reverse Logic, the same place that I got my jack point inserts.

Oh really? I thought a ton is 2000 pounds, was worried about the excess of 100lbs will affect the jack itself.

Thanks guys for the insight and info!

The reason why I asked this question is that, I wanted to paint my wheels with plasti dip :P.
Also this would help other DIYers

English-speaking countries are both joined and separated by our common language. Depending on which Ton (or Tonne) you're talking about, it can be 2,000, 2204.6, or 2240 lbs. Your jack is likley rated for 4,000 lbs., while Brissim's Oz jack is apparently rated for 4,480 lbs. Either way, you're both jacking up only one corner of the X3, and a 2-ton (or tonne) jack should be fine. Still, use of safety equipment such as jackstands is always a good practice.

If possible, would you mind doing before and after pics of one of the wheels.
