Sirius Radio
Hello all,
I am new to BMW and just took delivery of my X3 with Nav and technology package. I am regretting not having Sirius installed. I have emailed my dealership but all 4 people I tried to contact seem to be away!! Anyway..can anybody tell me if I can have in installed after the fact and what is involved/cost? Responses very much appreciated. Karen. |

I'm also interested in this. I believe only a software update is needed which amounts to $400-$500 cost including labor.
Can someone with actual knowledge weigh in?

Thanks for the replies!
This is what I've been qouted (Canadian). Seem excessive as I'm pretty sure it's pre-wired etc. Part/retrofit: $523 Labour/programming: $532 HST $137.15 Total $1192.15 Anybody else have thoughts? K. |

Sounds high from a US perspective, but I don't know what the going rate is in Canada. I'd shop around.

I was quoted $900 plus tax here for the software plus the labor. They were really cautious about the labor since they had no experience doing this on the X3.

I wonder what the labor component is. Can anyone confirm that it's purely a software upgrade? If so then put the car in a corner, fire off the upgrade, and have the service tech go do brakes (or, given an X3, passenger window motor replacement) or something on another car. Check back every 30 minutes or so. Minimal labor.

Took them two days and a bunch of hours doing mine. Seems to be more than just adding some software and rebooting the car.

I've been doing some more digging.
Seems like my X3 (that has iDrive and Nav) has Sirius pre-installed and just waiting for activation. On the Sirius Canada website "http://www.sirius.ca/en/automotive/vin-lookup.aspx" you can put in your VIN code and they can tell you if it's pre-installed or not. But on my radio there is no satellite option to begin the activation process. Anybody know how to proceed as Sirius is telling me I just have to activate? Cheers. |

That's the part you're paying BMW to install. If you didn't select SAT radio as an option when you purchase it, the antenna is there, but the software isn't installed or activated.
