Android head unit
Perhaps someone can help me out getting it installed properly
I got an android unit to replace my head unit. Got it locally from someone without any instructions. Thought it would be plug and play situation -by bypassing the main connector using the harness (like the recent units) but turns out there are some loose wires that require power/ground…. Not sure where to jump these from. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by cwaniak36; 01-03-2022 at 12:45 PM.. |

I recently did an AVIN head unit in my E83, so I can probably help you chase down some of the wiring. First, what is this going into? The box says it's for an NBT head unit, which is roughly in 2014-2016 production.
The yellow and black wires are power supply to something. Yellow typically is unswitched power and black is ground. For confirmation, you'll want to trace in the harness where those wires are going to and then see if it makes sense. At a guess, those are power supply for the android screen. It would get constant power but would be switched on/off via one of the communication busses. Black and red are power supply for the cameras. How these actually get wired in depends on a few different things. If you're wiring in a new camera, post the details. I think any factory camera setup will cause the display to autoswitch, again from the factory comm bus. The audio out and audio in connectors depend on a couple things. On some systems, audio out is connected to your cars existing aux in and the audio in on the harness is left disconnected. In other cases, audio out is connected directly to audio in. Which ones you use depends on the existing head unit's aux in pins and whether the harness is wired to those pins.

Thank you very much richardodn for the response.
It is going onto a 2013 x3 xDrive28i It has the NBT connection. Correct. Seems like these 2 wires (yellow/black) are going all the way up to the android unit connector. I’m also guessing they are for power as that’s what the unit is lacking when everything is connected. Now the questions arises where to jump it form. My x3 has the aux in so if no audio will be present I’ll make sure to connect it there. Makes sense: red/black for the aftermarket camera. My x3 has the oem reverse camera + bird eye view so the signal should get through the NBT connection. Last edited by cwaniak36; 01-03-2022 at 12:55 PM.. |

judging by the model # x3 x4 nbt 8953 4+64 , you have the below:
https://www.amazon.com/PEMP-Android-.../dp/B08VHVSHY1 might want to contact PEMP and ask for instructions. I too recently installed an AVIN unit, and some wires were left alone (i did not add camera's and what not, so no need to use every single wire) GL |

Thanks, yes it’s similar but harness looks different.
Mine has the extra power and ground cable with fuse box that powers the unit. I need to tap into somewhere. With these cables. It didn’t come with instructions and the seller lost them. Update, *will try to give it power from the lighter socket to see if all powers up this way. If all checks out will tap into the fuse box in the glove compartment. Read that people have luck with fuse #48 as it turns on and off with the ignition. Seems like this fuse has something to do with heating. Is there a better option? All worked out.
Tapped into the fuse #48 for power for the unit. Everything is working perfectly now. |

You may want to move the yellow wire to an always on circuit. It may need it to retain settings while turned off. Yellow is typically unswitched power while red is typically switched power. If you see it forgetting settings you make or losing the clock, give that a try.

Hello, I have already tried several devices, but I realized that on Aliexpress and similar sites everything is very bad with support after purchase
I was advised this site, and as it turned out, they are doing quite well, both with quality and with support. I can recommend them. And in case of problems, PayPal immediately returns the money. https://smarty-trend.com/bmw-x3-seri...head-unit.html |
