up, down, left and right on iDrive knob doesn't work

Pushing the iDrive know up, down, left or right doesn't work. All other buttons (CD, Navi, Menu and so on) work. Pressing an rotating the iDrive know also works. But nothing happens when I push it up, down, left or right. I took it out yesterday to see if the former owner spilled a drink on it. But it's all clean. Part number is: 6582 9253944-01, HW 01.00.00, SW: 01-02-01 Is this is a common problem? Can this be fixed or do I have to buy a new one?
