Battery Recommendation

Surprised to see that there aren't many results that turn up on replacement battery recommendations. Looking for a reliable yet cheaper alternative to OEM batteries. Any suggestions will help!

Thanks!

Batteries are a bit local - I can't help you there.

Good to know: most X3/X4 have "coast down regeneration": i.e. battery will be charged during coast down - to save fuel. This is a good idea - and not!

To ensure capacity available, generator will not fully charge battery. That is a good thing for - marginal - fuel economy but bad for battery - it will never be fully charged, and hence life is shortened.

This has been discussed before and remedy for me and others is to hook up a CTEK smart charger - or similar - once a month or so. We believe battery life is extended with 100% or so.

I replaced my h8 to a h9 battery recently. I got it from advanced auto which is a larger agm battery, 950cca, 105ah, and 3 yr warranty. Cost was about $150 after discount code. If you change yourself, you will need to register the new battery of course for the larger battery specs.

Thanks! How is it running to date? Would you happen to have a URL to the one that you bought? Thanks for the tip on the registration as well. I have the Carly app and tool which should be able to register the battery according to the larger battery specs.

Thanks again

I found this w/ a 20% off coupon @ $175. Looks like you got a great deal!

Try trt30 code.
Make sure your x3 will fit the h9 battery as far as length. Mine had a battery hold down bolt that can move to the next slot to fit a longer battery.

Here's the link:

I also used the carly battery registration app @ agm 105ah.
There is no need to supply a secondary power source while disconnecting old battery. The only memory saving lost was just the date/time that can be reset via idrive.

I don't know, mine lasted almost six years before I needed to replace it. That is a reasonable amount of time in my book.

If battery is only supposed to be charged to 80%, then does using external charger to bump up to 100% have any negative affect/compromise reasoning behind normal operation?

Do you have the Pro version? ISTA+ will also register.

The battery isn't suppose to be charged to only 80% but that is most likely the threshold at which it is acceptable.
People who drive shorter distances have a more aggressive regen braking. When it reaches back up to 80% then it returns to normal charging.
I can tell you by personal experience , after a new battery ...wow! Car drives better. Not such an aggressive regen brake. Mileage went up a lot! Radio stopped losing its memory at every start up, heated seats work fast versus after 5min on old battery, weird stumbling at idle gone, and probably more I can't think of at the moment. 6 years on mine and I used a CTEK for the whole last year.

Forgot to mention that I also hooked up the foxwell to the coupe after registering the battery on the X3 and these were the values stored. Notice when I used the CTEK charger.

Interstate batteries are incredibly good and have a true lifetime no questions warranty. I pulled one from a friend's used Lexus, put it in our 4Runner, and it lasted 2 years - at which point I went to an Interstate dealer and got it swapped for a brand new one. No receipt.

It's been going strong for 4 years since.

Optima batteries are also pretty great, but at that price point I'd do an Interstate any day.

Hope this helps!

I have a 2011 with original battery

thats right 6 full years of service and counting
however it might have something to do with low miles (35k)
our local batteries+ has a duracell 49r 92ah agm for $229-10% in stock whenever I need it
at this point all you would need is an indy registration (no coding)
or do everything yourself (my local bmw dealership wants $75 for registration only...they won't do coding for a battery with different specs)
the new battery matches specs of the original which is the best and easiest way to go in my book
the genuine bmw battery would be $245
