voice command with Nav?

I just noticed in the US with the Tech package it does NOT say voice command is included and doesn't give it as an option anywhere? Is this true?

I can't believe that the 3 series and X5 have this option and they wouldn't have it on the X3, its a technology already developed and shouldn't cost that much to add into that package.

If it does have voice command and its just not listed, does it work with music stored on the nav harddrive?

It does have voice command. My sales guy briefly showed me how to use it. I haven't really sat down to learn it on my own and so I can't comment if it works with the music. It is part of the tech pkg.

Thanks for the reply, I would have been really suprised not to see this feature. What did people do before the internet and online forums? oh yeah they had to rely on dealer info, yikes!

I've used it a few times to call people and it does quite a good job of recognising the contacts that I say. Doesn't always work and makes some interesting mistakes! Not used it for music but the principal is the same throughout the iDrive menu system I think. You start from the top level menu in the iDrive and say commands to navigate down through the menus

I have voice command in my Acura RDX. When I bought the car I was thrilled to have it and thought it was great. After about 5 mistakes with commands the thrill wore off completely. I would guess that I used it maybe 10 times total in the last 2 years, and that was usually showing off to friends.

Just not my cup of tea I guess. I doubt I'll use it when I get my X3 delivered unless the interface is much improved over Acura.

Similar experience. I've got voice command in my 2006 E90 and barely ever use it. The only time I seem to use it is when I have a passenger who wants to "try it out".

Yeah its more of a knowing its there feature, I have it in my Merc and hardly ever use it, but I think its an interface issue. I mean its just faster/easier for me to use the steering wheel controls to go through my phone book and make a call, rather than activating voice command, slowly speaking what I want, and then hoping it calls the right person (the whole time while it has the stereo turned off). I was maybe hoping BMWs system was a little better/faster and maybe worked with music (like if you said "play artist U2" or "play song Blue Room"), I would use it all the time for that.

Does the manual contain all the voice commands available?
Or does anyone have a listing...as I still have 3 months to wait for delivery, thought I might start memorizing the commands.

Do you have to teach it your speech style or accent?

During my test drive the CA demo'd the voice command. Not real in depth but it seemed to work I do remember he tuned a radio station using voice commands.

You can say pretty much anything that appears on the iDrive menu. It recognises menu commands fairly well but then you have to say someone's name to call them and it often gets it hopelessly wrong. I use for it calling numbers that I know will work from experience, "home" for example.
