Retro fitting rear view camera (UK)

Just an FYI, I spoke to the local dealer today to find out the cost of retro fitting the rear camera, they quoted parts including VAT of just over £800.

The more expensive part is the labour.. 6.5 hours! So, considering they charge by 5 minute blocks.. thats an awful expensive retro fit by the dealer. (Didn't even bother asking them to quote that!)

5 mins = £10+ at a guess? + VAT

Sheesh. Must say with the limited rear vis with my parking requirements I use mine every day. Top view is just superb for parking within lines etc. Parking in my narrow space would be impossible without risking wheels & more. So far no issues - I even spotted and avoided a bottle camouflaged against the kerb and avoided it by camera.

I would imagine its in that region, and more the nearer to London or other major cities you get.

I wish BMW would just quote an all in price to have it fitted rather than quote parts plus labour.

is that rear view only or rear view and top view? the top view camera is so cool - although not unique to BMW, the Infiniti EX35 had a very similar system.

I now wish I had ordered the top view cam at the time, but didn't. It is about $2k to install retro. Not going to do it, the option was $700 at the order time.

Cheaper to replace the damaged alloys!

It's an option I wish I had, but not that much!

Has anyone thought of installing a front facing camera on the X3. As the rise in fraudulent accidents increased i would like a front facing camera which is being recorded. Obviously we don't want to ruin the look of the vehicle any ideas?

ouch... i assume that would be for rear view and not topview?

i'm really glad i got the rear view as the visibility is quite bad.. so nice seeing the parking lines all marked out as well though i still prefer using my own eyes instead of the camera!

I am glad I ordered the "Top View", the Auto Boot lid is expensive for what it is/does. I ordered that as well though as you can adjust the hight of the opening.
