BMW Jack Pad?

Hi, anyone know of a solution for you to be able to use both a hydraulic floor jack and a regular floor stand on the BMW jacking points?

Items such as the ones with the rectangular adapter that insert into the jack point with a flat round other side will work with the hydraulic floor jack, but seems unstable with the floor stands with a "U" type of top to it.

Okay, I'll ask the dumb question.

If you're going to put the jack stand under the jack point.... where are you placing the jack in order to do that?

McMaster-Carr sells 6061 bars 12 inches long for $18 (P/N 9008K151). One piece of the 1-1/4 X 1-1/4 bar will make (6) X3 jack point supports. All you need is a sharp hacksaw and 5 minutes to cut it.

I suppose you could make a insert out of hardwood like oak, but aluminum is certainly stronger and will hold up better to repeated use.
Thanks for the great suggestion.

The other jack point

One the 1 and 3 series there is a central jack point between the two front wheels, does the X3 not have this?

LOL. That's what I was picturing when I was reading the OP.

Did you ever try that center mount point beneath the engine? I considered trying it, but chickened out. It is really not sized properly to accept a jack stand.

ah, shot down, yet again!

the hockey puck works well with a 3ton floor jack. I place stands on other parts of the rig.

I am just providing suggestions. They work for me and work well!

How about getting some railroad ties and cross stacking them like they do on heavy equipment.

Damn car manufactures keep making it harder and harder for the DIYer

That attitude MAY be morally acceptable while the vehicle is under warranty, but once that warranty has expired , it’s clearly a way of forcing all owners back to the dealership and is a form of anti-competitive protectionism, that’s almost criminal.

It wasn't that long ago that you could purchase a detailed repair manual for any new car with the blessing, and help of the manufacturer for very low cost. All US car brands usually included an order form for the service manual in the Owner's Manual. Then, starting about 15 years ago, service manuals suddenly increased in price from $10 or $15 to several hundreds of dollars. The next stage was about 10 years ago when the only way to get a service manual was in PDF form on a CDROM, and only if you had a dealership "connection". Now service manuals are not made available to the general public AT ALL and in BMW's case are only available to dealerships on-line via secure on-line subscriptions so they can't be duplicated on CDR's. They're treated as proprietary information and guarded as though they contain the pass code to Bill Gate’s bank account.

Clearly, BMW, and most other new vehicle manufacturers, do not want anyone but their own shops having the capability to work on these cars. Clearly, it’s in their best interest from a service related profit point of view to do everything they can to keep other’s from being able to work on the cars.
I've been told by both a Ford service manager and an independent BMW repair shop owner that the cars are now designed for the average owner to be difficult to work on. If fact the service manager told me that Ford purposely made the oil filter difficult to access and the BMW guy told me that within a few years he will not be able to work on the newer BMW's.

If my memory still serves me, the manufactures use to have repair manual order information in the back of the owner's manual.

I took Lotus' advice and ordered one of the Reversol (sp) specific jack tools and also odered 2 blocks from the online materials website.

Now, if I only knew where the jack and jack stand came from, I would be all set to install some mud flaps.......

ECS Tuning also makes a adapter but I prefer the reverselogic one better. The ECS Tuning one I had first & used with my previous BMW's but it did not have the little rubber circles to hold it in place. So, you had to slowly lift the jack & hold the adapter until the floor jack was to the height of the car.

Another option is to use ESCO jack stands with the flat tops. These will work with the reverse logic jack point tools.

Will a jack with a 15" lift be enough to lift both wheels at the same time?

ESCO stands can be ordered from Northern Tool. The part number is 146640. ESCO Model No. is 10498.
This is how I do it, and the dealer here in the UK does the same, they do not have these blocks!!.
