Navigation - Destination: Which Side of Road
Most GPS systems I have used, including the $3 iPad App, seem to indicate (by voice or on the display) which side of the road the destination is on - is there a option to turn on this "feature"?

not that i can figure out, im curious to know as well. im not a fan of the nav, has been inaccurate for me. It's also the first in-car nav that i've used that requires loading for a few minutes every time i start up the car. Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a 2k nav system doesn't work as well as my $150 garmin.

My wife is not going to be happy about this! She loved her OLD garmin, hated the LR2 nav at first, and hates my C63 nav compared to that! LR2 was a touch screen, so she already has to get used to the dial, if it doesn't tell you what side the destination is on, that is not good! i have never had a nav that didn't tell you that! come on BMW!

I use my "no cost eyes and brain". The dominate number system in California is that odd number addresses are on the north/west side. Therefore, even numbered addresses are on the south/east side of the street.

and for the other response, my wife would probably be happier with the garmin but I like the integrated navigation better. |

Stay away from Yountville, Calif. (Napa wine country) then. Odd and even on the same side of the street in some cases.

You can go with the clean lines and integration of the BMW NAV, and she can slop a suction cup to the windshield and dangle a cord to the power socket and go with her Garmin. One feature I really LOVE about the BMW NAV is the arrow display on the instrument cluster. I find it keeps my eyes on the road more than looking at the map display. By the way, I DO wish the maps and software of the BMW NAV were on a par with Garmin’s portable units. However with the other features that BMW NAV gives me that a portable Garmin doesn’t I’ll take the integrated NAV. |

As most of us know gps systems are not infallible. Therefore one should not totally rely on the system to figure out where they need to be and how to get there. Numerous articles have been written over the last couple of years that pertain to "Death By GPS". People blindly following their GPS off the road, lost in the desert and driving into lakes. My system (2011 Jan) on my outgoing 550i tells me it's either on the right or left, so I hope this 2012 X3 35D m Sport I pick up this afternoon; does the same.

Seems like most destinations I enter have a very small kink in the route line at the end that points to the side of the road it's on - not certain it's happened every time but generally if I zoom in very tight near the destination it seems to point at the house business. I, too, have experienced the nav system telling me verbally what side the destination is on, but it doesn't happen every time...

For some destinations it knows which side of the street the destination is on, for others it does not. Blame the map database that BMW chose to use.
