I use the rear fogs all the time... not only for foggy conditions but when it's snowing and if some jerk is tailgating me.

I thought the last time I visited the site that there were two versions of the switch.

The story I hear is that a BMW NA exec got sick and tired of idiotic Volvo and Audi drivers mis-using the rear fog lights and blinding everyone behind them. I'd have to agree they're extremely annoying. At any rate, this is why you don't see them on BMWs in the US.

That is too funny, I have dealt with BMWNA in my business life and I would believe it.

I noticed from the ECS Tuning web site the switch does not appear to have a BMW logo on it. I dont assume BMW makes the switches in any case but is the switch ECS Tuning sells equal both in quality and feel to the BMW supplied switch?

I like the idea of being able to turn on a very visible penetrating light directed towards drivers behind me. Last winter I encountered a couple of mornings before dawn, driving into work, where I encountered snow white out conditions with zero visibility at times. The extra warning to drivers behind me would have been nice to have. I am in an area of NY subject to so called lake effect snow and fully expect to encounter the same thing a few times this winter.

Any other outlets to buy the switch other than ECS Tuning?

My home and billing address are in Florida but I and my X3 are in NY for a long term business assignment so I obviously need the switch shipped to my NY address. ECS will not ship to anything but the billing address on a first order so they are not a viable supplier for me.

As I commented above, yesterday ECS tuning would not except an order from me because my shipping address is different from my billing address. I want the switch because I think it can provide a significant safety enhancement under some conditions but I have no experience using eBay so I am reluctant to use eBay as an alternate source. Therefore, I thought I would again call ECS this morning and see if they would be willing to take an order and only ship after my credit card debit was clearly credited to their account. Since I was still trying to do business with ECS, I just looked up their rating on Resellerratings.com, something I should have done prior to calling them the first time. To my unpleasant surprise, they only have a 2.83 rating out of 10 (but only 17 reviews). They seem to have issues resolving problems with shipped orders. Also, they also do not participate at Resellerratings.com to monitor feedback and resolve issues. I have used resellerratings for a lot of years and find their ratings to be a very accurate indication of what to expect from an internet vendor. Vendors (e.g. Newegg, BHPhoto, etc.) that are universally accepted as having outstanding service and effective problem resolution invariably have a greater than 9.0 rating. I am just stating what I observed but I learned from experience that there is too high a probability I will regret placing an order when the vendor does not have a high Resellerratings rating.

Hmmm this thread has me curious if the switch assembly is the same as on my 1 series.

I recently pulled out the switch assembly on my 135i and cut the little plastic tabs behind the "button" for the rear fogs. Put it back in and wallah, rear fog lights.

Can someone that has taken their original assembly out please look at it and post pictures of the side of the button that is supposed to activate the rear fogs? If there are four little plastic tabs (3 visible without taking it all apart) then this can actually turn into a free mod for people that dont care about the little rear fog decal on the button.

I just installed this switch in about 3 minutes. It took longer to open the package then to to install it. Ordered from ECS tuning and arrived in 3 days. The torx 20 driver bit is the one to use. The switch works perfectly and now I have euro spec rear fogs. Also anxious to use them on overly aggressive tailgaters.

SO missing UK fog lights when driving here in NJ.

First really foggy morning of the autumn here last week and drivers are obviously conscious of the lack of visibility, because they're driving with their hazard lights on.
Unfortunately, the Hazards conflict with brake lights, and I couldn't tell when the guy in front was actually braking.
The benefit of a single rear fog light is that it improves visibility from a distance, until you get closer and can see normal tail lights. Yes, many people leave them on in the UK, but soon learn when they realise they're continually getting flashed by other drivers from the rear.
I'll be fitting the Euro switch ASAP.

Actually, I have a UK trip coming up. Can anyone recommend a UK parts dealer who would carry/obtain a Euro spec switch?

There is a 3rd switch version that has an extra rotary dial for headlamp up down angle for Europe. I wonder if this function is built in and would work with just a switch change. This feature is shown in the owners manual as headlamp range control.
