The X3 has lacked "edge" since inception. Hopefully this new generation will address that.

Are you serious? Might be biased because I chose the F30 myself, but again that's why I chose it - I thinks it's one of the best looking in the class and combines sporty and elegance perfect. Hope the LCI is just as good :-)

On the X3, the more I see the current LCI, the more I like it. Awesome car and love the size (personal opinion, but the X5/6 is just way too big)

The size and price on the GLA is close to the X1. The GLK is up against the F25.

The Porsche interiour is a mess with to much buttons.
The X is very clean and proffesional looking in comparison imo.

And the new GLK (will be called GLC if I'm correct) will have a very similar interior to the new C class which is leaps and bounds better quality than the current x3. And from the spy pics of the GLC will be a looker too. BMW has some stiff competition on all fronts lately.

Perhaps it is the distance and angle the photos were taken but with both the new and current versions the muffler seems out of place as it is too low. It should be tucked up more so to be hidden. Seeing a blob of metal that after a few miles is going to look like crap does not enhance the look.

Call me a fan boy, but I've liked both generations of x3, especially in m-sport trim.

Let's not worry too much about the muffler size on an early prototype, or the fake taillights or paint job or missing fuel filler door. It's to early.

Renders of the new X3 are starting to appear and this one gives a good impression to how BMW will incorporate its new design language to the X models.
The typical X solidity remains will strong character lines and subtle surface detailing as does muscular front and rear wheel arches and a dynamic roof line with shallow rear windscreen.

Typical X3 Characteristic elements such as the T-Shaped rear lights , rising glasshouse , kicked up hoffmeister kick and sharp features are again carried over to the G01. A new feature continued is the flicked up headlights connecting to the grille but with the headlights utilising the new L shape in which Laser headlights will become available.
A strong but wider facial impression is identified by a wider and angular kidney grille.

For the first time the X3 will be offered an L variant with seating for Seven.
The X3 will become the first new generation of BMW X models to use the latest CLAR architecture utilising the weight load bearing section in Carbon Fibre along with other lightweight materials contributes to a loss of 100KG over the F25.
This will also make it the perfect candidate for the first BMW X3M model.
As of the current model, X3 will continue to be built in Spartanburg South Carolina.

The new BMW X3 arrives in 2016. And will be the first production model to feature the new design language. Although the first BMW SAV to feature the new design will be shown as a concept car ahead of the arrival of the BMW X3 but lays the Template for future models as Vision X.

My wife and I have been contemplating trading in her 2012 for a 2016, once they come out, but I think we'll just wait until this one comes out. Any word on towing capacity? 3500lbs is barely enough to tow a small camper. 4500lbs would be a big improvement!

If the G01 looks like the render, I would buy one for sure.

The F25 came in 11.2010 (the LCI 06.2014) and the successor should come 2016 already?

Is there going to be an X2M?

Since we don't get the M135 over here (or a 5 door 1M), an X2M might be the next best thing?

And I hope that the headlights don't get too angular....

+1, this would be very unlike BMW, 7 year cycles are standard, 3 years of LCI would mean the new generation would be 2017, maybe early 2017, but it should be a 2018 model year...

CLAR Platform?

Ok, I am no expert, but if all the models from 3 Series and up will be on this platform won't that greately reduce the handling and such of many models, as they won't be specifically tailored for the size of the car?

Does anybody know if I am correct?

yeah, kindda surprised when I read 2016.

Unless BMW is trying to milk more money by shortening the life cycle of each model

The x3 is very dated in my opinion. They are probably rushing to make sure they have great products in a high volume segment like this one. The new Q5 and GLC are due out soon as well and the GLC is going to blow the current X3 away on interior quality. So I'd imagine they just don't wanna miss sales opportunities.

Thanks god BMW doesn't take into their designs that 'vertically inverted' (narrower on top, wider on bottom; normal is wider above, narrower bottom) grilles people always put in renderings!

They are ugly!

Apart from very specific cases like the mustang, on a car elements and elements distribution, look better V-shaped or V-distributed than A-shaped or A-distributed.

As much as I know the X3 is still selling very good. For example, it was by far the best selling BMW here in Switzerland last year (even better than the 1, 3 or 5 series).

X3M could be the replacement for the 2013 X3. Maybe on the opposite end of the spectrum a hybrid version.

Hopefully they wont wait years to bring out the updated X4, I know its a new model but just like the X3, the interior does feel dated, I like the interior but improvements like those in the F15 design or 6 series are hard to miss and should trickle down into these lower priced vehicles as well.
