Production delays once again! :'( did someone take my production slot?

I am located near Toronto in Ontario Canada and so is my dealer. I originally had ordered my X3 28D near the end of July. Maybe 2 weeks later we visited dealer to ask if they had info on any inventory they could find and answer was no they had to place order for it which was fine as this was expected to happen in the first place. The sales manager estimated the car would be delivered to the dealer by mid September.

Recently I got word from the new car sales specialist at my dealer that the car is set for October production with estimate of end of October, early November delivery. This is terrible news for me :'( way further then what i was told earlier.

Is it possible that my dealer gave my production slot to a new customer and gave my slot for later car production? Maybe they struck a better deal with the next customer who walked through the door that also wanted an X3 Diesel!

Either I wait, or I'm thinking I find another dealer in my area who has a production allocation coming up who can configure my car for me and order it sooner if this is even possible. That is if they even have production allocation! Also money becomes another factor as maybe this 2nd dealer will not want to budge on sales price.

Is it possible to get my deposit back in the worst case scenario that i choose not to buy this car, and possibly switch cars/ brands/ dealer?

Thank you in advance for your responses and taking the time to read this post!

I hope it wasn't me! I ordered a new '15 on August 20th. I have my production number (VIN next week apparently) and delivery ETA is October 10th.

Wow, that stinks. Canadian bound cars must not made in South Carolina? My wife ordered her X3 M-sport on July 26th and the dealer called yesterday to tell us it is in stock for pick-up. We were pretty surprised at that turnaround time.

Spoke with my sales rep they said that the car is being made in South Carolina and that the delays are coming from railway shortages. Basically there isn't enough rail cars around to transport thousands of cars. So manufacturers have been forced to carry them to other ports in Canada and then they get clogged up there too.

Also the configuration i have takes longer at least for Canadian car because some of the options and packages are on back order and in short supply.

Dealer offered 2 weeks before delivery that i can have a loaner car from them which i find to be quite generous. I was also told i will be receiving a nice gift when car eventually arrives I admittedly feel a little bit happier

Nothing better than a "I'm Sorry Gift" from a BMW dealer

Is your car M Sport? If yes, BMW has some problems getting the X3 M Sport built, apparently short on some parts.
