F1 2024: Saudi Arabian GP - Jeddah (Mar 9)

F1 2024: Saudi Arabian GP - Jeddah (Mar 9)

Schedule:
https://www.formula1.com/en/racing/2...di_Arabia.html

Jeddah Corniche Circuit

Quote:
Jeddah
When was the track built?

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is, you won’t be surprised to hear, a temporary street circuit (albeit adorned with some permanent sections), located on the Corniche – a 30km coastal resort area of the ancient Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. Designed by the Tilke company, in conjunction with Formula 1’s own Motorsports team – who used Google Earth for their initial investigations into potential layouts – F1’s Ross Brawn said of the track: “What we want to see is a race circuit. We don’t want Mickey Mouse circuits. We don’t want those old classic street circuits with 90 degree turns. We want fast sweeping circuits, circuits which are going to challenge the drivers – and they are going to love it.”
When was its first Grand Prix?

The inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix took place in 2021, the race joining its Middle Eastern counterparts in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi – while like those races, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix also takes place under floodlights.
What's the circuit like?

Fast. Very fast. Average speeds around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit are around 250km/h – quicker than those at Silverstone, and second on the 2021 calendar only to Monza – aka ‘The Temple of Speed’. It is, quite simply, the fastest street circuit ever seen in Formula 1 – while the track also features the most corners on the calendar with 27, many of them quick, sinuous bends as the drivers wend their way along the Jeddah waterfront.
Why go?

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix promises a sun-soaked festival of Formula 1, located on an idyllic stretch of the Kingdom’s coastline. The on-track action is stunning, as the drivers get to grips with this rapid street track, while Jeddah itself comes alive as the city revels in hosting the F1 circus.
Where is the best place to watch?

The average speeds around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit are such that any grandstand provides a spectacular viewing location. Nonetheless, the gladiatorial splendour of the grandstand surrounding the banked Turn 13 corner makes for a very special spot for F1 fans.

So what are your predictions?
Jeddah is a dangerous track with lots of blind corners, so crashes and safety cars are a real possibility.

My prediction:
1. VER
2. LEC
3. PER
4. SAI
5. HAM
6. NOR
7. RUS
8. PIA
9. ALO
10. RIC

Reiterating the hope that also this season no crash with dire consequences happens at this very dangerous circuit. Whoevever designed this circuit, favored entertainment over safety. No need for a dramatic crash to realize this.

I couldn't agree more ! I'm saying this from day 1 ...
The Jeddah track is actually a deadly rat trap !

Seems like the FIA safety regulations are not applicable at this track ?
The top-5 drivers already said this last year !

Regarding a disaster at this track...
It's not the question if something can go wrong at this track , It's just a matter of time !
I'm pretty sure , the drivers have been very lucky at this track , so far !
That's why ...Let us really hope , they can finish this race unscathed...
Anyone with common sense should be very concerned !

It's seemingly a welcoming seaside setting down the road from Bahrain with the track close to the airport. I've been looking at the Jeddah map and what I can see is a well-off town with an uncluttered infrastructure and everything looks in place with apparently no rip off prices like in Europe.

3 F1 races on a Saturday this season:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...24-teams-race/
"Why does the season begin on a Saturday?
Formula One races are typically contested on Sundays, but three races will take place on Saturdays this year.
The opening two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will take place on Saturdays to accommodate Ramadan, which is expected to start Sunday, March 10. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was scheduled for March 9, and the opener in Bahrain was moved up a day to allow for a full week between races, per F1 regulations.
The Nov. 23 Las Vegas Grand Prix will also be held on a Saturday night to best accommodate American and European viewers. “We have found a solution so that European fans can watch the race with a cup of coffee at six or seven in the morning, just like it happens in the U.S. during the European races,” Las Vegas Grand Prix CEO Renee Wilm told Racing News 365 of the decision."

Sure .As we know, Charlie can do it..
Charlie is extremely fast . But just in 'one QF lap .

And that's part of the Ferrari things , as they run with a QF setup in the race.
Charlie wouldn't be so fast in QF , if Ferrari would run with a race setup in QF just like MAX.
It's in the race where it really matters ...

Ferrari has still a lot of work to do ,the Ferrari brakes are overheating very quickly by the weight saving brake discs and calipers .

Hinchcliffe does his sum up in his Hinch's Heroes column and no prizes for guessing who comes top in his list.
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...Zdn6HmQ5d.html

Just for the record it was Checo who got pole position at Jeddah last year with a 1.28:265 and went on to win the race.
We'll see how that stands up to whoever gets pole tomorrow.
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...LbLnSti9V.html

FP1 goes to MAX with ALO .186 in second and then Checo at .209, MV wasn't waiting around today coming out early on a hot day.
