Software and mpg ?
Is there any adjustment in the x3 software that would improve mpg on a 2017 x3 2.0 I have been unable to get above 21 mpg on the road and stay at 19 or below in city. Would doing the reset for transmission do anything to help ?
On some cars you can do a throttle body reset does bmw have this. I know i will get its hard to say what a standard is because of driving habits but a vehicle rated at 28 on road and 21 city combine = 24 should be getting close to mpg. I did notice my exhaust tip is very very black |

One of your tips will be more black than the other, there are some reads on that if you search in regards to the exhaust valve.
Have you tried using the eco mode? I average 11 litres / 100 km roughly which is 21 miles per galon on the 35i. I do drive much more on the city roads than highway, but i noticed for highway im at about 8 litres / 100 km which is 29.4 |

I have read post on exhaust valve mod my biggest question is black on exhaust from engine is incomplete burn .thats why I question can x3 be trimmed or leaned in any way to improve mpg. Engine seem to lag in city driving at 50 mph
Tach is only at 12 to 1300 rpm in comfort mode |

The fuel economy you report does seem low. Fuelly.com reports average mpg of about 22 for X3 28i.
http://www.fuelly.com/car/bmw/x3?eng...bmodel_id=2238 Mileage may improve somewhat as the X3 fully breaks-in. What kind of fuel are you using in your X3? If octane is low, timing will be retarded and fuel economy may suffer. I suggest you discuss fuel economy concerns with your BMW dealer. The dealer may be able to confirm if there is a software update required or other problem with your 2017 X3. There is a trade-off between sporty driving and fuel economy, as you know. This is a two ton vehicle which burns considerable fuel to accelerate quickly, plus if you have xDrive this further reduces fuel economy. If you feel the engine lags at some speeds in comfort mode, your driving style may not provide optimum fuel economy. There are aftermarket engine tune chips available that will boost performance and claim in some cases to improve fuel economy for given performance, but you could buy many gallons of fuel for even the least expensive tune options. It is normal for exhaust tips to blacken overtime. Keep in mind every time there is a cold start fuel is burned less efficiently for a time which will leave deposits. This does not indicate your engine is running too rich. Last edited by MichiganMike; 05-27-2017 at 02:07 PM.. |

You might try the reset for the adaptive automatic transmission or see if your dealer will perform a reset for you. It may not make a difference, but the DIY is a no-cost option. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=261285 It is doubtful that Dinan or other engine tune chips will improve fuel economy, but you may enjoy the increased performance so much you care less about fuel economy. Dinan and Burger Tuning each sell quick install tuners for $300 or less that offer limited tuning capability. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1159658 http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1282051 Below is a link to a discussion of mods and fuel economy in a different BMW: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=597245 Last edited by MichiganMike; 05-29-2017 at 06:46 AM.. |
