Whole tin of white paint over passenger footwell

Having decided to decorate my son's bedroom at the weekend, I picked up a brand new tin of white paint. On returning to my car at the DIY store I noticed some people near it so was distracted and just put the new tin on the passenger seat. Whilst travelling home, enjoying my new ride with the music up loud, I had to slam on the brakes as a car appeared rather quickly in front of me. The tin of paint decided to fly off the seat, crash against the central console and the lid popped off throwing the whole contents over the whole footwell! Oh dear I hear you say (I used slightly different words at the time).

Whilst travelling home (at a much higher speed now) I negotiated another bend and as I did so, the paint decided to slosh to one side and pour over the part of the carpet which was not covered (for the more inquisitive - the paint covered the entire mat, the door sill, the plastic wall to the right of the door under the glove box etc etc).

Well - I am pleased to say that the rubber BMW anti oil mat's that I purchased are amazing. All I had to do was spray the mat with a jet of water and it all came off - every last drop - I was absolutely amazed.

With a few cloths and plenty of changes of water - the paint came off the door sill and plastic as well. I used a carpet cleaner on the black carpet and am amazed to say that all teh paint came off as well!! I am a very lucky (and stupid) person

Thought I would share my experience!

well done you - shame you did not have a pic...or better still a video recorder running in the car so we could have heard the sound effects which I guess would have been very blue!!

I recall a link to a thread where an Audi owner spilled 2 gallons of smurf blue paint in the trunk of his RS6. The thread can be still be found but the pictures are gone. It wasn't pretty.

I myself had a similar situation a few years back where I had to brake hard and 2 large cafe mocha's spilled on my brand new black Z4 floor mat. Amazingly the spill was contained to the mat and a lot of rinsing, a little bit of scrubbing, and drying overnight cleaned it like new.

Before that, with a bit of hard acceleration, a large chocolate shake ejected out of the worthless cup holder in my E39 M5 BMW and landed upside down on the passenger seat. Not a drop spilled!
