Interesting. And much better than using the SIM in the car which isn't 3G and therefore not up to much for full internet access. How is the navigation of websites on iDrive though? I can see this being a royal pain in the ass without a mouse as most sites are predominantly designed to use with a mouse. Is it a case of moving the cursor with the iDrive controller?

Hi,
On mine the internet works via Bluetooth connection with a Nokia N97. When I try to do it with my Nokia X6 it doesn't connect to the internet...go figure. To connect to the internet you have to enable the data connection on the bluetooth device options via IDrive. The IDrive controls the pointer on the screen in a similar way to a mouse, but too slow to be really practical. David |

This is the reason I wasn't interested. It's like writing a letter using Etch A Sketch. Yes, it's possible but not much fun! It would be good if iDrive was touch screen or if it had a proper pointing device

Thanks Cheesebag, pictures are great. I do not have BMW Apps installed on my X3, thats why I probably don't see Internet option.
Can someone in US confirm that Internet option is available with BMW Apps installed or we need additional options like 614 + 615 along with BMW Apps? |

ahhh... you've gopt me thinking now. BMW apps needs USB connection to work Twitter/facebook and Web Radio so I automatically thought that this also did the internet conneection. I also have BT switched on so I suppose it could be through this?

haha, you should try being a Bristol Rovers fan mate. We were 12/1 to win League Two at the start of the season. Now we're 12/1 to get relegated!
You don't need BMW Apps for Internet. They are separate. You can also use BMW Apps with a cradle providing you have a media snap-in adapter and option 6NF Telephone USB Interface You can prove which option uses tethering and which uses the car's in-built SIM by putting your phone into flight mode (or not connecting it all in the case of the Internet option)

But Bluetooth streaming didn't work on all the three. I am not sure if bluetooth streaming ever worked in BMW's. |

I have a feeling it is using the inbuilt SIM and not tethering data but would love to be proved wrong.*

BMW charges £100 just to provide you Internet connectivity SW and on top of it you got to use your phone data plan, unbelievable. Good that they don't charge extra for Bluetooth connectivity

Almost certainly not. You need to enable the personal hotspot in the iPhone settings to share its data connection. This cannot be enabled by a third party application, plus most UK carriers require you to activate this service at the account level first. If only it was a simple as pairing it to the car!
I suspect its been using the inbuilt SIM all along with you thinking its been using the iPhone. As suggested, try it with the phone off. It'll still work.

It's just a browser, nothing else. The connectivity remains the same as for BMW Online. It most countries it uses the car's inbuilt SIM and you have to have a subscription to BMW Assist. It some countries it tethers the phone's internet connection but not in the UK or NA

In Portugal there is no BMW Online service, and as so the Internet I use is solely dependent on the service provided by the communications provider, as already mentioned by bluetooth.
