All of the electrical gremlins...
A few weeks ago the tailgate stopped working... Then the passengers side air bag was malfunctioning, then the TPMS threw errors, and now HVAC lights are strobe lights. My car has now become possessed by some sort of electrical demon.
Details: 2013 X3 28i 111,XXX BMW warrantied N20 and turbo - last year New battery installed by BMW in December of 2019 The car has been solid since the new motor was put in. These issues didn't all start at the same time, but with one happening right after the other I don't want to rule anything out. Where would you start? I've got an appt, but it's not till next Thursday. I'm not afraid of getting under there to see if there is a disconnected sensor or whatever. Here are some of the codes from my reader: 480143 SZL interface signal invalid D01739 interface FEM, SZL (operation of cruise control, 233.1.2): signal invalid D018E8 Message (RDC tyre status, 270.0.8) missing, receiver ICM, transmitter RDC 48909AB DSC: Undervoltage in vehicle 930A1C sea occupancy detection, for passenger: malfunction 8020D9 SCA rear lid contact switch: sca and rear leg jammed, lock faulty or short circuit to ground 030490 K-LIN_11 LRE: No LIN-slave 030410 K-LIN_11 MFL:No LIN-slave 801C20 ZGW: Central fault memory full no control unit fault E114A0 No message( type status, 0x368 ), receiver kombi, transmitter RDC E11482 message (type status, 0x368) not current, receiver kombi, transmitter RDC 800F92 E2C40B CON, K-CAN: line fault E2C414 E2D403 (terminals, 0x12f): incorrect, receiver controller, transmitter CAS B7F180 Software reset |

Your battery is not that old, but I would double-check its voltage output level with ignition off. These cars can exhibit odd behavior with marginal battery voltage.
Unlikely but possible, happened to me quite recently: intermittent errors, quite random: rodents got to chewing on a wire bundle, causing short to ground at times- it's a thought. Check that battery, rule it in or out- Good luck/Bill |

I would check for chewed wires on the CAN lines. Yellow twisted pairs. I don't have ISTA in front of me, but there are many below the JBE, under the carpet front passenger foot well corner.

We'll... I brought it in to get diagnosis done and they found the water leak. They wanted to do thousands of dollars worth of work BEFORE I had them fix the leak... Kind of slimy considering it's been 2 weeks and the battery tray is still filling with water.
Question: how do I best deal with the dealership on this? I can't for the life of me walk out of there without spending $1000+, often times just on diagnosis fees. I feel like I've already paid for the diagnosis, fix, and then testing of the fix. I want to refuse to pay a cent more but I know that's not how this works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Well that clears it al up - not at all. So you had a leak that caused some electrical issues, you paid to fix the leak, and now want to tell the dealer that you don't want to pay for the fix for the electrical problems caused by the leak? Why? Sounds like you need to learn to DIY.

1. Had a bunch of electrical issues. 2. Brought it in. Had them look for a leak. 3. They said they fixed the leak. 4. The leak is not fixed and the trunk is full of water. And yes, I definitely should have DIY'd this, but it's electrical stuff and I typically leave that for the pro's. This is my child hauler. There are electrical things that need fixing. We all agree on that. The dealer wanted to start working on those issues. I asked them to hold on till we verified that there wasn't still a leak. I'm happy I did that, otherwise I'd be on round two of spendy electrical parts as they too would have been doused with water. Anyway, I'm garaging on days when it rains. I just want the leak fixed from the dealership since I already paid to have it fixed. I paid them to fix a leak and they didn't. My question was for anyone that had advice on this, I'm not the first person to have a leaky BMW. Step back if you have nothing to add to my question. |

I have no opinion. I have over 2,000 posts because I try to be helpful. But your post was not "super clear" at all. Your first post was only about electrical issues. No mention of a leak. Your next post says you took it in and the dealer found "the" leak, not "a" leak. That alone was confusing because it infers a prior mention of a leak. Then you don't clearly say they fixed (or tried to fix) the leak, or that the water two weeks later was after an attempt to fix a leak. You thereafter refer only to a "fix" that you "feel like" you paid for and don't want to to pay any more money for, but it is not at all clear that you are referring only to the leak and not to the electrical problems as well. So, if you paid some unstated amount of money to fix a leak, and the leak is not actually fixed, then you should go back and tell them that it is not fixed, and you want credit for what you already paid because they misdiagnosed the leak.

I too did not find this thread "super clear" ;therefore refrained from trying to help out. Bottom line, if you paid them to fix a water leak and it still leaks, why is there a question "how do I best deal with the dealership on this'? Simply take it back and let them know it's still leaking and have them fix it |
