Got a 2012 35i quote
Hi,
I was gonna go for a 2011 X3 35i but the dealer said the 2011 model production has ended already so gave me a 2012 X3 35i quote instead. Is this a good quote? Or do I still have room to negotiate? 2012 X3 35i base model without any option/package: OTD price: $44,869.89 (6.25% sale tax included) Thanks! |

Well here is the pricing.
Base (US entry): x3 xDrive28i - $36,850 x3 xDrive35i - $42,400 * Destination & handling - $875 Full MSRP would be $43,275 with 6.25% ($2704) would make it $45,979. So he is discounting the MSRP by $1100. eh |

I think you can do better. Shoot for 500 over invoice and go up from there....

I got ~$2,600 off MSRP. I'm sure I couldn't have gotten a better deal if I pushed harder. Quite a few people here have said they got $3,000 off, some even more.

I went to 4 dealers. 2 offered me really lousy deals with an insulting trade-in offer. 3rd dealer was better in both respects and 4th dealer blew the others away both in trade-in & $ over invoice. Email all your local dealers Internet Sales Manager. Tell him what you're looking for and how much above invoice you're willing to go. Go to enough dealers and you'll find a good deal. My first 2 dealerships said, "The BEST we can do is $500 off. The dealer I choose gave me $2,600 with no haggling on my part implying I could have gotten an even better deal. Keep looking. You can use the extra $2,000 you get off MSRP to buy the 6y/100k warranty upgrade... or the tire warranty. I'd like both but I've already gone far over what I wanted to spend. |

Thanks Dukat. Are you sure the dealer don't make money on each option added? I heard that they do get some rebate on it on other brand . Not sure if BMW is the same case. Anyways, I will try to work on my deal harder.

Let's say dealer holdback is $800. If you tell them you will only pay $500 above invoice, then their profit would be $800+500. If you get a fully loaded car but you still want to pay invoice, then their profit should remain $800 hold back + $500 above invoice. BMW corporate may make money off packages, but I don't believe the dealer does.. at least not if you're set to pay the same $ over invoice regardless of what you choose. My dealer didn't push any options on me either. He didn't care if I took HUD or no HUD, metallic paint for or plain. He said, "Choose what you like". I figure if their profit would go up he'd try to get me to select more options. I could be wrong about this whole thing. |

Price doesn't seem great. My dealer does a straight $1000 over invoice which isn't as low as other deals I have seen but better than a lot and no haggling needed. At $1000 over invoice plus 6.25% tax it is only $43440 which is still $1429 less than your quote so I'd push for a better price.

but I found that the price included the $650 for BMW assist and enhanced Bluetooth and license and reg fees ~$300 so this deal is $2000 off MSRP. The dealer didn't seem to be willing to go beyond this point...

Do you think they did that to come in within the max price I told them I'd pay, then when it arrives they'll say, "oh yea, there's this fee too", and think I'll want it to bad I'll pay the extra $650?

Dukat I got about $2700 off MSRP on mine - i think there might have been $300 more but i'm not sure - i did extremely well on my trade thanks to CarMax and the dealer that matched their generous appraisal. If there was another $300 i was going to have to drive to a dealer 40 miles away - with the several trips down there barely worth it.
Weilun731 - from your original post seems you can do better by atlest $1000 perhaps more. I wouldn't do anything w/ the base 35i price - figure out exact options. also consider using edmunds - i find their TMV price to be alteast a good ballpark on a new car (their used car pricing can be way off). onto bigger and better things, what colors are you going to select?

Start from invoice.
Start at $500 over. Realize some dealers have MACO, some don't...and MACO costs vary. Consider production slot timing as well. -mark |

I practically stole my GTI because I walked in and bought it on a snowy December 30th and they had a few on the lot and had had a bad month. Cars in stock are usually best deals. |

Finding the sweet spot where you both get a good enough deal is tricky, and usually you won't really know if you got the best deal, so you need to shoot for a deal you are happy with. Then enjoy your new car. |

Quoted $500 below invoice through truecar.com
No haggle, they called me and offered it first. And...getting a BMW without an option could suffer in value. |

I was quoted $3500 off of MSRP plus the $1000 coupon from the driving event for a total of $4500. I didn't feel the need to haggle and bought the car on the spot. In addition the car was the color and optioned the way I wanted.
