iDrive is standard in the UK. You don't need any of the nav options to get the 6.5" screen. Some countries don't have iDrive as standard though

My MY2012 X3 20i built December 2011 has LED "angel eye" daytime running lights at the front.
I noticed earlier model F25 MY10 or MY11 with the daytime running lights "during daytime" had the rear led light strips lit as well when daytime running lights is selected in the idrive menu. E92 3er and E84 X1 and F10 work the same way. My car as well as other 2012 builds in South Africa at least seem to have only the angel eyes lit. The rears only light up when the parking lights or the headlights are switched on either in auto or manually. Please fellow F25 owners check yours even the owners with the halogen DRL and check if the rears come on too. Maybe new software has resulted in only fronts working? |

I'm a little bit confused - is this how the DRL are supposed to look? I have a 2012 F25 35i with the xenons and my DRL I believe involves the two strips (and also the curve up). The picture below looks like the brake is engaged and the inner strips are not lit.
Is it because the headlights are off? How many different versions of DRL are there? lol I need to drive around some mirrors to see what's going on. |

DRL's only involve the front lights - corona rings if you have xenon's or 'half' dipped headlamps if you have halogen bulbs. With DRL's enabled the rears are not enabled.

I checked mine and as expected when my headlights are switched off, then all my rear lights are off. If my headlights are switched to AUTO and the DRL is on, then my rear will look like this regardless of whether or not the xenons are on..
I'm just curious that in the above picture of the white 35i, the poster said that when his headlights are switched off, he sees those outside lights on and since I believe he's in the U.S., it's weird that it is different. |

In the picture of the white X3 the inner light banks are not lit because it does not have Xenon Headlights and therefore does not have LED tail lights on the outer and inner led light bank - only a single globe in the outer part of the tail light
In my car the LED tail light banks not switch on when Daytime driving lights are selected and the Light control is in Auto or OFF positions - My car is a MY2012 built mid December 2011. Could there have been a software change late in 2011 that affects the rear LED light banks? South Africa receives Euro spec cars What about the forum members with Euro spec cars? |

Then your car MUST HAVE the LED Rear light banks on the outer and inner parts of the tail light and these MUST at least light up when the parking lights or headlights are on. The rear lights would then look like JSY's picture above - except it looks in that picture like the brake lights are on too.

Here in Canada, we have DRL, so, it's simple. (with Xenon headlight)
- Engine on = all rear LED lights are always on. - Engine off and parking light on = only outer rear LED are on (not the inner). |

I didn't order xenons and have the crap rear lights. What does surprise me is that on a "premium" car there is only one bulb on each side. For as long as I can remember the cars I've had before (3 series saloon, Audi A5, Audi A3, Volvo S60 for the last 10+ years) have all had two bulbs each side. I've always assumed that this was a resilience feature i.e. one bulb fails and the car is still lit on both sides.
I'm pretty stunned that the X3 only seems to have one bulb so if it fails the car is unlit on one side.
