2011 X3 35i cold starting trouble and lower mpg
Car has 18500 miles on her and I always buy Shell premium.
Lately the morning temperatures have been in the low 30's (Fahrenheit). Car takes a couple or more tries to stay started and mpg is significantly dropped. Last year no starting issues what so ever. I know colder weather and ethanol in the gas wil lower the mpg, but compared to last year it seems dramatically worse. Avg. 13mpg this winter vs. 18mpg last winter. I'm taking her in tomorrow but anyone have any ideas or similar experiences. TIA for any insight. |

HPFP maybe? I'm getting 20.5 on my 2011 35i in town and 28ish on the highway. Something is not right.

Worth digging into...same year and mileage here, but not experiencing those issues with significantly colder temps. Turned over fine this morning with an ambient temp of 1 Fahrenheit (why do I live here). Mpg has suffered a little, but I attribute that to winter blend fuel and the inherent side effect of worse fuel efficiency.
